There is no evidence to suggest they are good or ba for your baby. They are still doing a lot of research on them but know pleanty of healthy kids that were born after a large amount of ultrasounds (some were twins, some had high risk pregnancies).

The answer is that they really don't know. Some small studies show that they are not safe, there haven't been many studies that show that they are, except retrospective studies which are not terribly accurate. It is obvious that they cause some degree of heating and cause bubbles to form in the amniotic fluid. Ultrasounds are frequently used to heat muscles during physiotherapy. The bubbles have also been observed, but no one really knows if they are safe, and how much they heat the amniotic fluid. In addition, heat generally only causes problems during the first six weeks.

The real fact is that is has been proven that routine ultrasounds DO NOT improve outcomes. So unless there is something specific they are looking for, that they can accurately determine through ultrasound, that has a treatment with a reasonable amout of success. I just decline.

No, not at all. The ultrasound is just a digitalized image of sound waves bouncing off your body. It's totally safe.

I have a Chiropractor that thinks they are really a bad thing. that the sound is very loud and actually makes movement into the uterus and can cause any number of things. When I had my kids they only did them in case of something wrong then over time they just started doing them routinely...I don't know the truth, only that you have the right to refude and you can look up adverse affects on prenatal ultersound and see what they say about it. good luck.

I overheard in my OBGyn's office that they are NOT harmful, you could have one everday if you wanted - just be very expensive. There might be other devices that could pose a threat but I trust when my dr says it isn't so.

Not to my knowledge. My son wasn't to fond of them pressing on his head. I mean yoiu sholdn't have one everyday. But having them every couple of months is normal.
