Good question, I am still trying to figure it out too.

Fantasy football is a fun way to interact with the games by picking players that you think will perform well that week. Their actions get points if the reach a certain standard and if you get more points against other Fanatsy players you win. What you win is up to what kind of group you play with. You can win bragging rights, money or both.

Normal football - Fans cheer for a team to win
Fantasy football - Victory shmictory, throw it to my tight end!

Normal football - A TD or two in the 4th quarter when a team is down by 4 TDs means nothing.
Fantasy football - A TD or two in 4th quarter "garbage time" means everything!

Normal football - If a team has a large lead, or is nearing the playoffs, they might rest their starters to keep them healthy.
Fantasy football - What? I spent high draft picks for them! Put those bums on the field until they drop!

Normal football - A QB throwing two TDs and four INTs can lose you the game
Fantasy football - Since TDs count for 6 points and INTs only cost two, that's four points in the bank + extra points for yardage!

The differences go on and on, and certainly can change the way one watches football.
