stick with Goa, Sri Lanka is overbuilt and overpriced, they don't even have good built-ins and most of the development have those nasty HOA's to tell you what you can and cannot do with your own property. At least in Goa most of the homes come with good built-ins (Monogram, Viking, etc), a pool and good gated security amenities. The land value and the home value will increase much more in Goa also. Be sure to go with a good builder you know Shea, Toll Brothers, etc., do not buy a spec home and have it done to your specifications. Good Luck, and also remember Goa has a better school system, better police, more shopping and a Starbucks almost on every corner and about one mile out of town a new super Walmarts.

Go for Goa!!!
Its a great place! I'm from there (I dont live there at present but I have a house n all and I go there in the hols).
If yur gonna buy land, try getting a place near one of the beaches. You'll love it there, Trust me!
I havent really been to Sri Lanka so no comment .....

Foreigners can not own property or land in Sri Lanka. If your thinking about Goa, do a google search for Indian Property.
Mumbai and Pune are really nice. I was actually looking there as well - but I will msot likely buy in Dubai UAE.

i'm from Goa and can tell you there are loads of English people with holidays homes there now. You will enjoy it, personally though i prefered it when i was a little kid and don't care for it much anymore.
Too many tourists for my liking and i don't mean the european's but people from around the rest of india as well. Crime as a result has also risen which has caused my family there a great deal of concern. Of course, our corrupt Indian goverment does little to help us.
However, i'm sure you will enjoy it, many of my Indian friends (non-goans) still go there regulary and love it!!
As with any property abroad you need to go and live there for a while to really get the feel of the place.
From a financial point of view i don't think you'll make much, my Aunty told me her property is actually worth nearly 25% less when she first bought it several years ago.

Kandy in Sri Lanka is a beautiful place.....I am not sure about owning property in Sri Lanka. But I know that they sell brand new apartments in Colombo, Sri Lanka to foreigners.

start looking very carefully at the legal aspects. Check the RBI website for information on who can buy. Are you a NRI or PIO?
