I tend to become obsessed with television shows, especially ones that are well written/revolutionary to their genre.

Take Arrested Development, for example. It's been off the air for close to a year, but I still post on a message board for the show with other fans, have written episode summaries and guides that have been posted on wikipedia. I own the three seasons on DVD, several t-shirst and mugs to boot!

My current TV obsession though, would be HBO's The Wire, it's probably the most well written, thought provoking, exciting television show I've ever seen.

I don't think there is anything wrong with what your L&O obssessed friend is doing. they've found a place to channel their creativity.

I mean, they're writing! they're using their intellect and creativity in positive way...it probably keeps them from getting into trouble. If i was their parent, or their friend, I would encourage this because being able to write well and tell an interesting story is a dying art form in our society.

So what if they're inspired by a TV show? We're all inspired by a multitude of things.

Personally, I'd be more worried if this person was obsessed with a show like the simple life (that Paris Hilton Show) or Laguna Beach/The OC.

I think it seems strange to some of us, but I think we're the exception to the rule these days, not those who are "obsessed" with shows.

Of course there are various levels of obsession. Obsession is a strong word.

I mean, that's the whole idea behind soap operas, or, daytime soaps as they're now called: to keep viewers involved and concerned about the characters' lives. It was hard not to keep watching them because the writers would get in with the emotional drama and leave the viewer hanging at the end each day's show.

Look at all the fan clubs. For every TV show there is now a website and / or a gathering of fans who want the details on the characters and actors...I think it is actually quite common for someone to be obsessed with a TV show.

no, not really, because sometimes a show is just SO great, you can't help but be overly obsessed with it. tons of people have other obsessions, like with music or bands, or sports, so tv shows should be just the same. I would know; i have a few "over obsessions" lol. the band, Hinder, That 70s Show, and hockey

No, that isn't unusual...as long as they don't start doing illegal or destructive things they see on the show. Truthfully though, I probably wouldn't let me 12 year old watch a show with such adult content.
