...but today's government is getting ever closer to a police state.

Is there anything that can be done to reverse the trend? (Side questions: Those of you who have actually READ 1984... do you see any parallels?)

The Founding Fathers had no clue how the constitution would be twisted like it is today. They are spinning in their graves. For you to say that, you have to look at what kind of men they were. Deeply religious, conservative and we were in the middle of gaining our freedom.

Our country is falling apart and you can thank the left for that.

Well actuelly our Founding Fathers did not maximise freedom. In their times African Americans were slaves, Native Americans at about same level of respect and women had little rights. USA has moved to freedom since our Founding Fathers and alot of progress has been made. Unfortunetly recently the Bush administration has been taking our freedom for security (a trend shown in 1984). As for reversing the trend we need more people caring about freedom and not which celebrity had a new baby.

Thomas Jefferson said that there should be a revolution every generation.not necessarily a violent one.I don't think.
were a nation of sheeple.the people barely have time to vote .or care to.when people get into office. there caught up in the corruption that inherent to politics.the lobbyists. the Jews influence.big business.interests.the military takes over half our tax money.which is not necessary.
the feds just give away so much money to other country's is terrible.
were just pawns of government.they give back to the people the least they can get by with.
this could be a great country for the people but its not. theres so much injustice.we need to kick out the illegals NOW.by the way. and start protecting the environment and the wild animals.
The people need to care more about this country's future and not just there immediate needs.were not animals.and shouldn't act like animals.were humans and we can think ahead.we should have compassion for people less fortunate.people need to have jobs. health care.I was hit by a truck and am on disabilty and have to try to live on six hundred and twenty a month.and i paid in to the governemnt all my life. But I love this country for all its problems.I would die for it if I needed to.

Agreed. Unfortunately, i don't think there is a way to stop or reverse the trend. The powerful in Washington will never pass laws that reduce their power such as term limits or abolishing PACs.
It will take some time but those of us who want freedom to ring will have to start locally with grassroots organizations.

Too many, unfortunately. or government seems to have adopted the slogans of that party as their own. (you'll get that if you read the book)
