I need help with my mp3 player?

I have a memorex mp3 player, so I use windows media player to put songs on it. I've used WMP plenty of times now, but just recently it updated or something. Now it says that it doesn't detect a device. I'm thinking about pushing the little reset button on my mp3 player and seeing if that helps, but I don't want it to erase all of my songs. I wouldn't have to buy all of the songs again, but it would be a hassle. When you reset it, does it erase the songs? Or does anyone know of anything else I could try to make it work again?
