Is the common scientific thought that the universe does indeed have an end? or is it sort of treated as a big "unknown"? Or, is there a concept of something beyond the "universe"?

There are two basic notions of 'size' when referring to the universe. The first is the size of the observable universe: this is the portion of the universe that we actually have some chance to look at given the fact that the speed of light is finite. Since the universe is about 13.7 billion years old, the radius of the observable universe is about 13.7 billion light years. The 'edge' of the observable universe is simply the distance light could have travelled since the start.

The other main concept of the 'size' of the universe is best understood by looking at the surface of a globe. If we are thought of as being at the north pole, the observable universe may be a small patch near the pole itself, but the universe as a whole may be much larger. Unfortunately, whether the universe is cuved as a 4-dimensional sphere or not is a very delicate measurement to try to make and we simply cannot tell based on what we have seen so far. In fact, it looks likely that the universe is flat rather than curved, so would be infinite in extent. It is also possible that the universe is 'negatively curved' like a saddle. In that case, it would also be infinite in extent. In no case would there be an edge to the universe as a whole.

There is no size. They only use the word so that we understand what they are talking about. In reality the human mind can't comprehend what infinate is. Every point in the universe is its center. Earth is the center of the universe, but so is every other planet and star.
There is no beyond the universe. the only other thing you can talk about "beyond" is paralell universes, like in the string theory. When they talk about the expanding universe, that is just from the big bang expanding out. if you think like that, then the edge would be where ever the shockwave of the bomb has reached. you should check out stephen hawking lectures if intersted.

There is a concept of other dimensions, beyond this 3 dimensional universe. Our 3 dimensional universe is believed to be curved and have a limited volume but no edge in an analogous way to the Earth's 2 dimensional surface having a limited area but no edge because it is curved in a larger 3 dimensional space.

concepts are not facts ( the big bang is a theory and also not a fact ) but if it is is correct - the 'edge' of the universe is always moving it is a 'wavefront' and carries matter - time - and what we thing of as 'physics' with it and what it expands into is not describable nor understandable by constructs of the 'universe' like ourselves ( even tho some have the need to try )

It's all just theory, best guess at most..We as human wish to instill borders ,limits and edges on everything. how can you place a size on something that's either/neither nither nor? I personally haven't seen any proof that were not all a figment of some things imagination. It's all relevant and irrelevant at the same time.... time?
