It doesn't take much of a dose of the real thing to remove the urge to watch it, I can tell you that much.

Yeah! Actually, I have kind'a noticed that...not so much just with violence, but with any type of intense situation, really. For instance, I really enjoyed the movie Thirteen and thought that it was a very sacred film, brutally exposing the harshest truth of teenagers growing up too fast. However, my boyfriend, who has a 16-year old sister who just had a baby, detests the movie, saying only "my sister was sixteen one." I know he also grew up in an environment similar to the film, with a young mother, etc., so this probably only heightens his distaste.
I think it frustrates us, in a sense, to see our own harsh realities/experiences captured on film in a way the general public deems art, etc.

I don't think it's always true. Sometimes it might be, but not all the time. There are lots of people that have lived different types of horrid violence, and still enjoy watching a violent movie.. because they know it's a movie. My cousin grew up in a home that was riddled with volence.. to see her mother killed and her brother beaten almost to death.. I know that's not the kind of violence you're talking about, but she's fine now, and she still likes to watch movies that are violent.. she's been there and lived it, but it doesn't affect her. Me, I've never personally witnessed any violence but I don't like to watch it.
Perhaps you're thinking of a specific person in regards to this question, in which case, all people are different.. and watch what they watch not because of things they have seen or not seen but because of personal tastes.

The people who enjoy watching anything violent are those who are not able and not knowing how to express their hidden anger. Since they really don't know how to deal with their anger deep down inside them, they become violent lovers. They -unconsciously- enjoy anything that violent to incorporate and relate their unresolved anger feeling inside them....
For those who have this hidden deep anger, they might try martial arts as their compensation for their anger feelings.

I haven't lived a particularly sheltered life and I enjoy crime dramas... but not horror movie violent stuff. I watch more for the drama and perspective than the gore. Did I answer you?

Can't say that I agree. I think exposure to violence to some level actually desensitizes you.
If you're around it, but it's not directed at you, you become immune to viewing it.
But I think it takes on a different meaning when the violence is directed at you. It makes it all too real then.

I've seen my fair share of violence, somewhat disfunctional childhood, and yet I love action movies. The violence in movies is nothing like violence in real life. Real life violence is just scary but movie violence is just one adrenaline rush after another.

No, I believe that people who become school bullies do so because they have seen their dad beat their mum up, and take their anger out by bullying somebody as vulnerable as their mum. So can I say, we all know what school bullies are, they are sad people, why dont they stop their dad beating their mum insstead.

not really. in my experience, the ones who aren't accustomed to horror flicks, murder flicks etc usually want to keep it that way and the ones who are fascinated by it kind of stay fascinated by it
Pretty mucht the opposite in my experience but everyone's different.

Are you saying that ghetto-dwellers don't like watching violence on TV or in the movies?
That's new to me.
