Are certain individuals able to interpret or read the minds of a complete stranger ?

Pure speculation would suggest:

- history of exposure influencing the other, Uni- or Bi- directional influence;
- being in the same instance or having gone through similar experiences;
- subconscious vocalization from one being to another;
- empathy of likeminded people;
- perceptive individuals;
- chance, coincidence.
- any other suggestions ?

Speculatively, long lasting marriages or close relationships may bear some of these traits.

There are many people in the world. In my personal journey I have found that when I am at ease and functioning in a state of 'high vibration' (meaning I put all thought processes into alignment with the purest of intention) I have an increased number of intuitive encounters of being on the same plane as those whose path I cross. This is evident with complete strangers that may be open to the same life stage or awareness stage as I am at any given time. I call these folk sister or brother and tend to meet them in situations that are conducive to similar thought patterns.When I am in a loving kindness state of mind body and spirit I also have increased occurrences of this type with family and friends....but those whom I am in close contact would be familiar to me even if they were strangers. My Kindred family. There are many like minded people who 'see eye to eye' with those who have developed similar belief structures. Those who I am able to share with in this way may not share this experience with individuals who believe differently. There is less connectedness and less energy available to expend on pursuing foreign thought patterns. I believe we as beings resonate more strongly when we find connection.

surely if the vast majority of communication is non verbal there are situations where you can 'read the mind' of a stranger by looking at them just the once? Take away all the non verbal cues and can anyone no matter how perceptive, likeminded or familiar they are with a know individual communicate this way?

When I first read the question, two ideas came to mind. Firstly, that from your title ('Thought and Word...'), you were asking whether thoughts and words are reducible to each other - which is an interesting philosophical question. Secondly, I thought that you had mis-stated the question, given that you proceed to mentions means of communication, thereby indicating that the Other is not a COMPLETE stranger (choice of words in philosophical discussion is of the utmost importance, if clarity is to be achieved).

This is a question that could be answered for days, on many different levels. I'll simply throw in my view that although the ideal of authenticity (of being unique self-determined individuals) prevails in the modern Western world, most of us are, in fact, reducible to types, and therefore quite easily classifiable (and classified) by science. Similarly, it seems to be the case that our body language can be quite easily deciphered by other (fairly perceptive) individuals who can also distinguish between what we verbally articulate and what we mean.

Good question. I like to think myself that some people could. You'd think after millions of years of evolution(or what you may believe in) that the human race could have learned to use more than 10% of their brain power. Although it is said now that we have increased this to 11%.

What the other 89% is, is beyond me but i'd like to see what it is.

of course. it's one of the *siddhis* (singular=siddha). with enough meditation and other "esoteric practices" just about any human can reach his/her full potential, and become a siddha to some degree. humans, ordinarily, settle for " enjoying" about 5% 0f their full potential. why? because they are brainwashed into believing that there is nothing "real" beyond the materialistic and "main stream" drivel. why is this so? because the psychopaths who own the planet and control your lives don"t want you to explore your potential. you'd be harder to manipulate, and, when deemed expedient, murder if you knew the truth. ;-)
