She has excellent typing skills, and is pretty good with word and excel. She has worked for many years at a big law firm as an executive assistant dealing with famous people from all walks of life and supervising three to four secretaries at the same time. Her dictating skills are tremendous. Her people skills are one of a kind. Anything typing, researching, dealing with people (very important to the regular person) is exceptional. She is now older, and has problems being considered for a postion because of her age. She lives in a big metropolitan area so cost of living is high. She takes care of her disabled brother (my uncle), and I am still in school and unable to help her. This being said, she needs a pretty decent paying job just to make ends meet. Any ideas would help and would be a great christmas present to me. Thank you so very much for your time. Happy holidays.

Check out www.usajobs.opm.gov... the government can't discriminate based on age, and they have excellent benefits and good pay for someone with her background =)

Honestly she sounds like an ideal candidate for customer service in a call center environment. That way she could use her people skills and her typing skills with minimum impact while earning a decent pay without having to do demeaning work simply because she is older. She is the type of person many call centers look to hire first!

Sounds like she would make an excellent office manager for any firm. My advice would be to simply keep sending resumes until she finds a company that doesn't discriminate based on her age.

I would also suggest targetting smaller firms where she can be interviewed directly by the owner of the company rather than one of his employees. Real decision makers tend to appreciate skill and ability.

While a larger company like law firms may have problems with hiring her because of her age, doctors offices would probably love having her on board.

For one, they'd know she's older and probably more dependable than family women (no sick kid absences, etc). So I think she should try to get on as a receptionist at a doctor's office. She has all of the skills she needs.

If your mother is the person you say she is (and i'm sure she is) then she sounds like a perfect candidate to work out of home for the same company I work for. Interpersonal skills are a very important, as well as basic internet and typing skills. We make our money by referals, so being able to cummunicate verbally and through written word is quite beneficial in this business. Please email me if you are interested and I would be happy to help your mother and share more information with you.
Hope to hear from you soon,

Is your mother as interested as finding a new job as you are finding one for her? If not you are wasting time. Trust me, I've been there.
