You didn't mention what kind of romance you like - contemporary, historical, occult, etc.

It used to be that a romance novel was....well.....a romance novel. There was nothing else to it. Now romances have branched out and it's hard to find a romance novel that doesn't also have sprituality, occult, a mystery, suspense, time travel, or is set in a specific period of history or on some other planet.

You also didn't mention what sensuality level you're looking for - some people want to read ALL about all the physical details while other people want just a hint of the earth moving and the angelic choir singing for the big moment.

For good contemporary romance novels you would probably not go wrong with Elizabeth Lowell - she's a good writer, her books always have a little bit of mystery or intrigue in them but the main focus is the relationship between the main characters. She works in families, too, so you get a glimpse of 4 brothers while one book focuses on one, the next book focuses on the next one for a nice sense of continuity and familiarity with the characters.

If you like historical romance, you can try Jude Devereux, who's very popular but her plots are a little......fluffy.

If you want a heroine who can kick some serious butt and a plot that involves monsters and the occult, look at Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series - Anita Blake lives in a world where vampires are real and have come out of the broom closet. Anita is a licensed vampire hunter (you can't just go out and kill them off, they now have civil rights so you have to have a legal order of execution) and knows how to handle her firearms as well. It's a wonderfully written series up to the last 3 books where it all seems to fall apart. Warning: you MUST read these books in order and they DO contain some steamy sex scenes - Anita ends up falling in love/lust/romantic entanglement with one of the creatures that she usually hunts which makes for an interesting twist.

If you like some humor in your romances, try Jennifer Crusie or Candace Bushnell (who wrote the book that "Sex in the City" was based on).

I used to devour Harlequins by the cartload and found that my favorite author was Robyn Donald, whose romances are set in New Zealand or Australia.

Hope this helps!

The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. They're not your traditional romance (as the main couple is already married for most of the series) but they are outstanding! This is especially true if you like just a little "fantasy" (in the form of some subtle and very-back-story time travel) in your books.

Another enjoyable series is the Clan of the Cave Bear series by Jean Auel. There is no romance to speak of in the first book but the second and subsequent books have a nice blooming relationship.

Anything by NORA ROBERTS. She is amazing. And she writes some series, so once you finish one you just HAVE to get the next. Some of her's that I've really enjoyed are Midnight Bayou, The Gallagher series (Jewels of the Sun, Tears of the Moon, Heart of the Sea) and the key series (Key of Light, Key of Knowledge, Key of Valor). They're romance mingled with mystery and some mythical elements...I love them, hope you enjoy!

Do you mind if i say "A walk to remember" ? I like it even more than the notebook. And if you've seen the movie, don't think it's the same here....for me it's totally another thing! So..if you haven't read it yet, give it a try :) Cuz as it's put there "first you'll laugh, and then you'll cry" And i did just like it was said.
