I'm thinking of getting an A4 but not knowledgable on the technical end. Basically, I would like to ask experts the ups & downs of Audi - known problems, etc etc..

Check Consumer Reports and other publications.

Audi cars (especially the post 2000 ones) are great in terms of styling (especially interior wise) and performance (some models).

One place they have always lacked is in the reliability area (though they have improved since 2000).

If comparing reliability to a Honda I would definitely say go with the Honda (probably Acura actually since you seem to want a luxury car). They are proven to be more reliable on average than Audi. Then again, a lot of it really depends on how YOU take care of the car after you buy it. Follow the recommended service schedule and don't beat on it...that way you should be fine with either.

I've heard good and bad things about Audi. Over the last few years they seem to be improving. I was considering one myself last year but when I realized how much repair costs would be, I decided against it. Remember, a warranty only covers the engine and any defects for the first two years. So in five years if the air conditioner goes out, you're looking at $3,000 in repairs.

I would recommend an Acura RL or TL over an Audi A4.

Ask yourself this first. How long are you going to keep it? First 4 years the cars will both be very reliable after that the Audi can cost more to own than a Honda. Long term the Honda or Toyota will cost less to maintain as parts are less expensive. However if you want a car with soul to it the Audi is they way to go. German cars offer a different feel than Japanese cars. The German car involves the driver more with road feel and steering feed back, where a Japanese car tends to isolate the driver more.

Audi's reliability is pretty much average, the A4 is fairly reliable, but if you're looking for a reliable car, stick with Honda. It'll last you to 300,000 miles plus if you take care of it well.

Audi, or any sports car needs a mechanical owner, or an owner who can afford a good mechanic. They are higher performance (faster acceleration) and this extra performance requires a little more maintenance. And no, Hondas are much more reliable than Audis.

well lets put it like this if you are really thirsty and a glass of watter is on your mind and i give you a glass on vodka.
how would that stand up to your thrust and the thought of watter...

so now you know how the Audi stands up to say like the Honda
