I assume you have an OLD car that took regular LEADED gas?

Then you should use a lead substitute with your low octane unleaded "regular" gas..... OR use the highest octane gas, unleaded, that you can buy.

I have 4 cars that TOOK leaded gas. And now use 98 octane leaded gas to have the power and gas mileage from years ago.

SORRY, if you are too young to remember REGULAR gas, then... never mind. Just choose another person as BEST ANSWER.

Premium gas has a higher octane and thus burns a little hotter. It will not hurt using it once in a while, in fact it may help clean out the engine. I would not use it all the time because the added heat could effect valves and piston rings. Still if you don't need to use premium why spend the extra money?

Unless your engine requires premium, the only thing you'll notice is less money in your hand when you leave the pump. I tried this on my Cavalier years ago... I used regular for a month, logging mileage and driving conditions, and then used premium for a month. The mileage was identical within +/- 1 mpg. That's hardly worth spending the extra 30 cents or more per gallon. If you have a sports car or highend engine, I would go with plain Jane.

It really comes down to how you drive. The higher the octane, the better the combustion, the more energy you get, meaning it takes less fuel.
Having said that, the improvments are probably very small.
If you could control how you drove for 2 tanks of gas, you could see the improvement. 1 tank regular and drive calmly and the same all the time, 1 tank premium and drive the exact same way as the regular tank.

Premium gas simply is gas with a higher octane rating. Unless you're driving in a race, you don't need it. If however you do decide to waste your money and use premium, it won't hurt your car.

It will not hurt your car to put in premium gas. If anything it will make the engine run cleaner because premium is cleaner gas.

When you say regular, I assume you mean regular unleaded? Premium gas just has higher octane. You pay more for that. You can use it, but if you're not gaining anything by using it, go back to the more reasonably priced regular unleaded or ethanol!

It will cost you more money but it will probably have no effect on performance unless you have a high performance car. If you are doing it to try to get it to run better, auto parts stores sell a fuel additive that you can use to clean fuel injectors and the fuel system that may help you.

Modern cars are optimized to run best on the recommended octane fuel and a minimum octane fuel will be recommended. . It will not hurt, nor will it help to run higher octane than that recommended by the manufacturer.
It is totally up to you, though, if you want to pay more money for fuel.

Yes, it will run on all octane's. But you will see only a slight increase in horsepower and mileage gains, it will help have a cleaner set of injectors. But it takes a cars lifetime of use to reap the benefits of using it. 1 or 2 tankfuls a year is only good for cleaning the fuel lines and injectors.
