We have now paid the leaches in America for the Second War (at 60 million per year it comes to more than 3600 million) and I am informed by the BBC news that we still owe 60 Billion for the First War. Some friends the Yanks and nowonder they were able to rebuild Germany and the rest of Europe with Marshal aid, none of which was for us in Britain, puts their real feelings for us in perspective doesn't it. Anyone else out there who think that we should just tell the Yanks to boil their heads over the rest as with friends like America who needs enemies?

I note that the Yanks are defending the exorbitant repayments, note that we helped them finish in the Pacific, well we should pull out of Iraq and let the Yanks feel the full effects of their errors.

I see that we have to be grateful to Yanks who arrived as usual 4 years late, just to take the glory, and who because they had not fought a war for years lost more men in the last year or so of the war, than we did during the whole war. I am not too sure whether we would not have been better off under Hitler who had pulled Germany up from the depths of dispair into a military and industrial force.

American Aid always comes with a price.
We should have allied with the Germans in 1942, we would probably be ruling the world right now.
Dont forget that the American militiary had plans for war with the British, in the 40's they considered us a threat - those were the days.....

Your joking aren't you.
The terms of the loan were brilliantly generous. I'd like to give a hug to all of the USA for being there to support us and get us back on our feet after the devastation of our country after WW2.
Why do you think the UK didn't the war loan off sooner ?
2% for the life of the loan. Its brilliant terms. Paying it off soon would have cost us much more.
Don't you remember normal bank interest rates over the past 60 years.... sometimes like 20% at times.
The USA has practically given us the money... what we've repaid is a few crumbs compared to interest rate depreciation of amount lent by the USA.
Geez. Talk about ungrateful.

And just where else was Britain supposed to get financial aid from? Most of Europe was occupied at the time. We still have our freedom from tyranny. Do you honestly think Hitler would have allowed the British race to survive. You would not exist today. Your forefathers would no doubt have been destroyed, or would have served a life of slavery. Hitler wanted to develop a master race and that did not include any British DNA.

Well Johnny boy, you could be paying that debt off in deutchmarks, had the yanks not jumped in to bail your sorry @ss.
We yanks sure enjoyed spending all those British pounds over the years. It really improved our quality of life, or maybe it went towards helping to pay off the Marshall Plan, I can't remember!
You forget, the Marshall Plan was designed to help rebuild the country's we destroyed in our quest for victory. The details of this plan at the moment, I am not privy to, however you too were a victor, so I guess rebuilding of Great Britain came out of another budget. Who's, I can't say!
I am a member of one of those Yank families who lost an airman, probably over the Channel, since his plane or crew were never found. I guess his loss doesn't count as you add up the balance.

I'm sorry mate but your comments and show a lack of understanding of the real situation and how much support the USA gave us before they even entered the war. We would not of won without the help and support the the USA. Even in the early dark days of the War they were supporting us by supplying us with food, equipment etc. I believe even the Catalina flying boat of Coastal Command, the plane that spotted the Bismark when the search was on after it sunk HMS Hood, at least one member of the crew was in the US military(thats if my memory serves me right), and that was before they entered the War.
We have a lot to be greatful for. I have plenty of respect for them apart from their present Government who appear to be as daft as ours. I don't think the present US government has the quality of previous Administrations long gone by.
Yes they may make films and carry on as if the won the war on their own, but we really couldn't of done it without them. Please don't slag the USA off for WW2.
Yes thay also did assist with financial assistance after the war but where the money was spent in Germany on rebuilding, I believe our money went on creating the welfare state, but I can't confirm that.

At an interest rate of only 2% i think they have lost out on the deal considering at times inflation has been over 10%.The money we owe is for what that gave us before and after the war ... arms food shipping oil.Thier war effort was payed for by themselves. We are forever in a debt of gratitude to our american cousins for bailing us out in the war and for our and thier brave men that lost thier lives. Can you imagine what life would be like here in the uk if they hadnt have helped us out....probably in slave labour by now... you idiot!!!

The War would have lasted probably another year or two if the Yanks hadn't intervened,it's a small price to pay.

Firstly, the repayment was to USA and Canada.
Secondly, it covered the post-war years, not the period of the war.
Thirdly, the WWI debt is in the form of UK gilts, ie the lenders are the UK people.
