The main thing is it breaks the warranty on the PS2 and you can't resell it. Also it will break down faster. Still depending on how it is modified you will be able to play games from other countries that may never see the light of day where you live. Also some foreign games are cheaper. I bought a modified PS1 to play the Serial Experiments Lain game and I have no regrets. Just make sure that it is what you want before you lay extra money down on it or try modifying it yourself. There is no undoing the modifications and modifying it can break it. In the end, though, I would recommend a modified PS2.

See Tony's answer. One of the Cons that Tony's links don't address is the accelerated mutations theory. This is a theory only and has never been proven yet there does seem to be a large body of data that supports it. It probably didn't come up in Tony's references because it hasn't been proven. It would be your best Con argument because there is very little scientific fact for the Con side. Most of the Negatives have been public hysteria and false statements in the media for shock effect. For an example see railroad dave's answer.
