I mean I know how to put it on. See, I dont wear much makeup just foundation and mascara and chapstick. How do you apply makeup like the pros and look like a star. I dont get it, can I do it myself if someone would tell me how, or am I just a lost cause?

If you want to know how the professionals apply makeup there is a really good book called Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin. It shows before and after pictures and includes celebrity makeup.

If you want some quick tips, here is how I do it:

First apply foundation. I like to use those foundation sticks from Cover Girl or Mabeline. I concentrate on the circles under my eyes and any blemishes. Make sure to blend really well (It should look seamless).
Second apply eyeliner. If your a first timer I suggest a pencil. You want to line the bottom of your eye lids but make sure not to get in your eyelids. You should stick to the eyelash line, drawing from corner to corner. (I suggest black if you have brown/black hair and a brown if you have blond/red hair)
Third, put on eyeshadow. If your going for a simple everyday look, use this sparingly on your eyelids. Using the eyeshadow brush in a half moon shape over lids. Apply darker shades at the outside corner blending light and nude shades twards the top and inside corners.
Next put on mascara, i usually hold the wand on lashes for a few seconds. If you want to dress it up curl lashes before applying mascara (use the curling wand by clasping lashes at bottom of lash and holding for 20 seconds)
Apply blush with a brush. I would stick with a tone that is only slightly more pink than your natural skin tone. Stay away from very bright pinks. Dab a very small amount on brush and "paint" on the cheek bones only. A little goes a long way. If you are very pale you may want to use a tan color on your cheeks and jaw bone instead(blend).
The current trend is simple slightly tinted lip gloss. If your going for that full look try a gloss with lip plumper in it. Stay away from lip liner and any dark shades.

Just remember to blend everything. It should not look like you have much makeup on at all. I would suggest cutting out a magizine picture and copying that look. Also don't forget that if you mess up its no big deal just wipe it off and start again. You will be a pro in no time!

i used to practice and read and watch and ask until i got it, recently i got a makeup course to do professional make up which helped a lot. i also got a cd but it's not like getting professionals to teach you.
i suggest you go to youtube and search for make up or go to makeup sites like chanel.com with vids or go to ivillage.com with a lot of tips and just try to learn until you perfect it.
in the end you will notice you want to look as good as possible with the least amount of make up, now i stick to suscreen and loose powder kohl and chapstick or lipgloss and keep the rest for special occasions. makeup is like something extra, you should put most of your effort on keeping your skin great and staying healthy.
if you or any other girls need more info you're more than welcome to e-mail me.
good luck.

Don't use flashy colored eyeshadow. Stick to a neutral color, or a color that compliments your complexion and eye and hair colors. EXAMPLE: I wear different shades of brown, sometimes a purple-y brown. Burgundy red also compliments my brown eye and hair colors, so I also use dark reds.
