Because, they are capable of having 2 calves...and each calf needs at least 2 teats to get enough milk throughout the day. They nurse on one teat and drain it then they can move on to another while the other teat has time to produce more milk again. In short, cows have 4 teats so they can ensure a constant milk supply for their offspring.
Just like human women have 2 breasts but we generally only have 1 baby, its better to have a surplus of milk than not enough. Also the number of teats or nipples on an animal doesn't neccessarily indicate how many offspring they can have, humans can have 1-8 babies and yet we only have 2 mammaries, cats, dogs and pigs often give birth to more or less young than they have teats to nurse with. It takes time to produce milk, having extra teats ensures a constant supply is available while a drained teat is producing more milk.

Cows do occasionally produce multiple births. The incidence of twins in some breeds can be almost 1 in 10.

I breastfed two children (not at once) and believe me, one boob wasn't enough to fill up a child.
It just makes sense that a cow would have four of them for 1 big old calf to feed. When the calf empties breast 1, it can move on to breast 2 through 4, while giving the other one a rest and time to refill. :)

1. They may be recently descended from animals that did have more offspring.
2. There may be a survival advantage in having multiple teats for a calf to choose from, with less overall trauma, risk of mastitis, etc.

why do us woman have 2 boobs, ? because when baby suck´s only on one nipple , it becomes rather sore, then you end up with one nipple bigger than the other, and not only that , when the first one is empty , have to give it time to fill up again , so it´s the same for the cow´s so now you know, Happy New Year, and don´t forget to drink your milk
