My 8th grade teacher wants us to read " The Bridge to Teribitha" {sp] And " Jacob Have I Loved". I have already read The Bridge to Teribitha and i read it in 2 hours. I hate reading books that a 5 grader can read! I'm used to reading 400-600 pages not 144 Pages. Since I am in home schooling, can i reccomend better books? Or do I have to read them??

If your being home schooled, you might have more options. Your teacher can work with you better, than having to deal with 20 other students. Tell her you already read those books and would like somethign more challenging...

i know exactly how you feel i read that book when i was in second grade. Im in 8th grade as well and most of the books we are reading are so far below my level that i almost fell asleep in class. and the thing is i personally hate rereading books, so i work out a solution with my teacher. i would pick a book that we both agreed on and do a seperate study on my own. anwser question and take a test on the book. Im in public school and i have an awesome teacher who respects me so she allowed me to do this. however i dont know if youre teacher will let you but it cant hurt to try.

Lots of eighth graders aren't even really able to read yet, but it sounds like you're actually getting a good education. I feel for you :(

Maybe ask your teacher? She might understand and give you a different book to read. There's no point in making you do something that doesn't even challenge you!

I would suggest telling the teacher you would like something more challenging. You might even suggest a title you think is more appropriate for you. Teachers, both home school and public school, are often open to student suggestions like that.

If you're in the U.S., it depends on which state you live in. Some require you to follow the local schools curriculum, others do not. See www.hslda.org/hs/state/default.asp
