I just shortened my screen name to "Ethy", as it seemed much quicker to type, and lots of people were calling me Ethel, which I don't like.

Etheldred is pronounced Ethel-dred. It's an old British name. It means noble and strength. It's actually a Girl's name, although many people do confuse it with Ethelred. Ethelred, pronounced Ethel-red, was an old British King.

Etheldred is used as both masculine and feminine. I think Ethy sounds feminine. I don't like the name Ethel either, but my name is Wilhelmina and everyone calls me Willie (I'm female). Sooo who am I to talk!

It does sound feminine although Ethelred is a very old masculine name. Why not shorten it to Red or even Eldred? Red can be both, but Eldred is definately masculine.

masculine. i do no longer like it the two i would not use it. The boy's call Haven ha-ven is asserted HAY-ven. that's of old English beginning place, and its meaning is "a place of secure practices, sanctuary; seem after".
