My bush barely hung over the property line. Before I had a chance to trim the bush, my neighbor hacked at the bush cutting a foot over the property line. She never mentioned that the bush was a problem and cut the bush while I was not at home. When asked why she cut the bush, she said that it was blocking the view of her tree. This is interesting since the bush is not between her tree and her house, her tree is taller than the bush, and the only time the bush may block her "view" is when she is speeding into her driveway.

Well, it's have a neighbor from h***ove the bush by making a formal complaint to the cops where they could maybe just warn her that she has no right. You can ask them if the can do that. Or, you can ask her to tell you next time and you will do it, this may be a little nicer, if she complies, or you can just cut her tree if it's hanging into your yard and really get it going. So, that is a really personal and hard thing to call for you I know. I have neighbors from *ell myself, so I do have sympathy...I just never did anything they always did it to me and now I have a privacy fence so I don't have to look at them. It's much better. A poet wrote Good fences make good neighbors and it is sooooo true. Good luck.

If your bushy bush is hanging over HER property, she has every right to cut it back to the property line whether it was blocking a view to something or she just didn't like it. Your bushy bush was impinging on her property causing a nuisance to her. Maybe she cut it far back because you have a history of not keeping up with the yard work. I'll bet you don't let it get overgrown again, will you. If it bothers you so much that she cut it back too far, why weren't you out there earlier tending to it so she wouldn't have had to do it herself? That will teach to not to let your bush get bushy!

She has the right to trim the bush up to your property line without notifying you. The fact that she went beyond lot line simply means she either didn't know where it was, exactly, or she was trying to follow proper pruning techniques, which sometimes requires pruning back to the base of branches.

What I can't get past is the fact that you're here whining about a damned bush. Is this the biggest problem in your life? Sheesh!

Some of you surprise me. Who would even think of crossing a property line to cut down anything to the ground? It's a disrespectful and aggressive act. This morning I awoke to noise and my neighbors were cutting down a hedge between our property. The line goes down the middle of the hedge. The hedge was old when I took possession in 1981. They crossed my property line previously and cut down 2 large rose bushes and and hacked to the trunk the bottom front half of a large Holly tree. The Holly faced the street and was nowhere near their property.

It is your responsibility to make sure that your trees and bushes do not impeed on your neighbors property. If it was hanging over ... even slightly ... the she has a right to trim it back and it isn't fair to expect her to trim perfectly. You don't have any recourse except to take care of your own yard from now on.

Recourse? For a BUSH? Did she kill the bush? Did the bush suffer? Are you scarred because of your bush?

Here is what a reasonable human would do - APOLOGIZE for the fact your bush was overgrown and taking away from her enjoyment of her property THEN in the future be more cognizant of your bush issues!

The bush will grow back. Try to be civil, neighbor wars can get nasty. Did it bother you more that it was trimmed or that she did it without asking? Talk to her again and tell you you were upset and ask her not to do it ever again. Explain why you don't understand her reasoning. If she does it again then maybe we need to have you post again for some shadier and backhanded revenge ideas...

let your neighbor see the road for goodness sake. mine did that very same thing, and i told them to do it anytime it needed done. It was obviously hindering them in a way, so just let it go, and don't be a d**k about it.

i hate stuck up neighbors like that. its a stupid bush! not like its a wing of your house, or necessary for sustaining life. Dig it up and move it, or just don't worry about it..... Be glad I am not your neighbor, because that bush would die a very mysterious death. It is funny how quickly my 150 dollar a quart weed killer kills bushes too. Yup, commercial grade.....you have to put new dirt down if you want anything to grow in that area for the next 7 years.

I'm not a lawyer, either consult a lawyer and sue her for emotional and property damage OR cut her tree down (and tell her - now you don't have to look at your tree because it's not there anymore)

an eye for an eye

I'd say forget about it, forgive her. Just a minor thing

In a court of law, you can only sue for damages.
Unless her actions killed the bush and needs to be replaced, you have no financial damages.

Life is way too short, move on!
