The virus is probably HPV

There are over 100 HPV types.

About 30 of these types are sexually transmitted and cause genital HPV.

Genital HPV is spread through skin-to-skin contact, not through an exchange of bodily fluid.

Genital HPV cannot be entirely prevented by condom use.

This virus is often asymptomatic -- people usually don't know they have it.

About 5.5 million new genital HPV cases occur each year -- this is about 1/3 of all new STD infections.

About 20 million people -- men and women -- are thought to have an active HPV infection at any given time.

Nearly three out of four Americans between the ages of 15 and 49 have been infected with genital HPV in their lifetime.

HPV can be contracted from one partner, remain dormant, and then later be unknowingly transmitted to another sexual partner, including a spouse.

Though usually harmless, some types cause cervical cancer if not detected in time.

About 14,000 cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed in the United States each year.

Over 5,000 women each year die of cervical cancer in the United States.

The best way to screen for cervical cancer is a Pap test, which may be done alone or in combination with an HPV DNA test.

Your doctor has terrible bedside manner. What he's referring to is HPV (human papiloma virus) which is transmitted by intercourse. There are many strains of the virus, some can do nothing, some can cause genital warts, some can cause cervical cancer. 80% of women have it at some point in their lives and it can go away on it's own. Mine did. As long as you get your pap tests and the cells are only atypical and considered dysplasia, it's ok. I cannot explain how you got it but I don't see how it could've happened other than intercourse.

You most likely have the HPV virus which is common. Call you doc and ask for the proper name of the virus and then look up the info on the web. HPV virus is common but does need to be watched carefully as it can turn into cancer. For now call your doc and get the right info about what it is that you have and what he wants to do about it. You should not have left his office or let him hang up without getting the facts straight. Also you did not get this virus from kissing or hugging it is transmitted sexually. Call you doc today and have him or his nurse call you back with the details and don't hang up until you understand what they tell you.

'Twould be nice to know WHICH virus you're talking about, before someone accuses hubby of dabbling about.
Being an 'atypical' test result, the thing to do is to have asked the Dr. "what's atypical about it? What are every possible viable means of contracting it?" Also, did Dr. test your husband?
I'd be tempted to see Planned Parenthood, or a Women's clinic, as these agencies are bigger into DISCUSSING with you what the heck's going on and various options.

It´s probably HPV, the virus that causes cervical cancer. It´s more than likely that your husband contracted it from someone and then passed it on to you. Men rarely develop systems so he probably never knew he had it.

You can´t contract HPV from kissing or hugging, only sexual intercourse. There is no cure for the disease.

it had a weird name the thing you have
i am a nurse
what you have is just something genetic
it means that there is nothing wrong with you but it could be in the future just keep getting regular pap smears
it could mean alot of things like you will have issues whn you get pregnant and have to take antibiotics to protect the baby but it can not harm you
