Magnets can actually disrupt the electro-magnetic field (EMF) produced by the computer and may cause the computer to malfunction.

A COMPUTER SCIENCE ANSWER
Depending on the power of the magnet. See when you have current(Electricity) running through wires it creates a EMF(Electro Magnetic Field) and computers have lots of circuits(traces) in their systems. So it is possible for a magnet to cause EMI(Electro Magnetic Interference). This is why developers are careful when designing motherboards to keep the traces and wires far enough apart to reduce EMI.
Hard drives work a little different. EMI is still possible but most likely, as mentioned above it will cause interference in the read/wirte opertation inside the hard drive with it's EMF that it creates.

NO. You could end up erasing all your data on your computer tower and end up with nothing and having to buy or restore a whole new computer. The magnet interferes with the magnetism inside the tower. So don't do it. Don't place any kind of magnet near your computer.

Dudette,
NO! :)
Actually, it probably will not hurt anything, but isn't a good idea. Your hard drive is nothing more than a magnetic platter (s) that has all of your data. Why would you risk it.
Older computers with sturdy cases use to have a shield around them. Now, in an cost savings effort, they do not have any of this stuff unless you spent more than $1K for your computer.
Keep the magnets and liquids away. :)

No. It will interfere with your computer, if not totally disable it. I sent for my level five key chain when I had another ISP. I had to get a new ISP when I moved and start all over on answers. It is nice to know that they do send out the freebies, but I didn't get mine. I'm jealous.

Definitely DO NOT. Magnetic fields affect the reading/writing of hard drives, and tape backup systems and can cause loss of data.

Those sort of magnets will not do any damage on the outside of the case. BUT do not place them on the hard disk or put STRONGER ones on your case.
