I will bring it well down with no regard to the numbers.
If not fixed, replace thermostst again and install carefully..
I assumed this is a residential packaged heater not a boiler/burner!?

Not to be flip with you but Dah! of course it burns you that is why it is called a hot water heater not a luke warm water heater.

Ok serious now. you may have a calibration problem with your dial but 100 degrees for hot water is ok, if its to hat for washing your hands then just add a little cold water. having it set to anything less then 100 is really pointless but if you like luke warm water comming out of the tap rather then HOT water then as the other fellow says turn it down

Sounds like the connection between the thermostat and water heater is bad.

Check and make sure you have the right element in the heater. If it is too high it will heat the water hotter.

Water heating is a thermodynamic process that uses an energy source to heat water above its initial temperature. Typical domestic uses of hot water include cooking, cleaning, bathing, and space heating. In industry, hot water and water heated to steam have many uses.

Fahrenheit or Centigrade? 100 degrees F is not hot enough. 100 degrees C is EXTREMELY hot.

Try turning it down, the numbers are not that close.

I think the element is about to burn out.The element will get hotter and then it will suddenly stop working.

lyes it depends on C or F, keep turning it down until you reach the desired temp.
its obvious its electric, and if all fails, the adjustment gauge may be faulty.
