I don't think they're ready to pull the plug on Carr yet. The Texans need to look at the O line to give him protection. Add that to the fact that he'll be more acclimated to the West Coast offense, and he should be ok.
Plummer has flopped in Arizona and Denver, and Quinn won't be available by the time they get to make their first draft pick.
Troy Smith will be available though according to every mock draft and player rankings I've read. For some reason the gurus of the draft board don't have him going until the 2nd round, way past the Texan's first pick.
We'll see in April.

Brady Quinn. He is smart and makes good decisions (most of the time). Troy Smith is a guy who only threw for a little more than 2,000 yards and is fast, but he is no Michael Vick. For that reason I think the Texans are better off with a more traditional quarterback who passes from inside the pocket.
I would say the smartest thing to do would to go with a rookie and try to build a successful franchise around him.
Maybe they should draft a running back though. I doubt Ron Dayne will continue with the success he had against the Colts, and Wali Lundy is nothing but a mediocre back. Domanick Davis is a good back but has been injured.
That's off the topic but the Texans need to rebuild their offense. David Carr has had enough opportunities to lead the Texans to the playoffs. That has not happened. Although they have played decent this year they need to find a QB probably Brady Quinn with Troy Smith being the second option. LSU's Jamarcus Russel may have his draft stock rise and HE could end up there. Who knows at this point...

Plummer sucks and his days as a NFL starter are over.
Brady Quinn will likely go to Detroit or Oakland as they both need a QB and have the 1st 2 picks in the draft.
It'll either be Smith or Carr.
Personally, Carr has never had a fair shot in Houston. His offensive line sucks and I feel that if he had a consistent running game and offensive line that he could do quite well in Houston. Rumors have it though that while the coaches feel he can do it, the owner does not and may cut him.
Smith fits Kubiak's offense. He's very mobile and is very accurate on the move. He's tough and a winner. If he is a 2nd round pick, it also gives the Texans a chance to use their 1st round pick on an impact defensive player, OL, or RB while still getting a good QB.

David Carr is the foundation of this team. Unfortunately, he's had to suffer behind one of the worst offensive lines in NFL history. With better supporting players and a stronger defense (picking up Mario Williams, despite what all of the "experts" say, is a good start), you'll see that the Texans will be contenders soon enough.
