That is what the US is hoping for. There's this question about if the US should transfer him over to the Iraqis first, but it is believed that this would just create more violence.

Well they haven't announced a date and time for when this will occur as not to cause a great deal of turmoil in Iraq. But I have seen reports to be as early as Sunday. When the verdict was announced under Iraq law they have 30 days to complete the process.
Link provided below for clarity.
Hope that answers your question.
Cheers! Happy New Year.

from news sources in iraq yes...saddam was tried in an iraqi court, by iraqi ppl and government and they judged him to be guilty...as it should be. this is not our fight and we need to leave this to the iraqi ppl to get their justice for all the murders, maiming, torture, rapes and oppression that saddam inflicted on them. its tough to see anyone die or be punished but we have to remember this is the iraqi's judgment and saddam is not an innocent man. unfortunately everyone, especially american's will be targeted for the iraqi's decision.

I have read that it will be by Sunday and I have read that it will be within 30 days. Most likely it won't happen by Sunday because his lawyers will try to keep him from being hung.

I;ve already heard conflicting stories. It's almost as they are having a little fun screwing with the media before it happens. Sorta makes it worth it doesn't it?

As early as Saturday according to US officials, but Iraqi officials don't seem to be in as much of a hurry.
Peace!
Later - you know I read this on Yahoo news so I went back to check, and you are right. Now they are saying no later than Saturday according to Iraqi Officials: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061229/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq
God help us all.
