The magazine editors and designers set the rules.....beauty sells. I don't think the emphasis on being a perfect size six has been as bad these last few years as it had been in the past. Big butts and curves are starting to become popular trends. With modeling agencies now refusing to let the models who are way to skinny work and all the bad rap Nicole Richey and others are getting I think the next generation of "beauty" will be big boned. As far as obese being considered beautiful, I don't see that ever happening.

I dont think there are any rules. One person can be ugly to someone and beautiful to someone else. Each person is different. Media seems to think they make the rules about whats beautiful and what is not. The truth is, I've met many a man who would perfer someone on the heavy side then someone who was skin and bones. I've met a lot of men who think skinny women are disgusting. It just depends on the person.

good question, probably what many are wondering. its the study of anthropology, how people act, believe, how they set trends. most people nowadays care about their weight, or mainly what others think of them. thats a huge problem among teenagers, what others will think of them. Initially today most people think that they look more beautiful with a skinny body, curvy for women in particular. in some ways no, its not fair for people to judge you by weight. but i am happy to be healthier when skinny, all a matter of opinon. some people dont think its worth going on a diet just to be skinnier, they want to enjoy the food they eat in life, and thats ok to. its all a matter of an opinion. hope i helped!

Fashion designers decided that their clothes should be modeled on skinny people. All of a sudden regualar people were starving themselves to look skinny like that. Also, we have a twisted view of beauty. The images we see in magazines, movies, and on TV are all digitally altered or they are wearing layers of makeup. Underneath the makeup and pixels are actually normal people. This makes us think that we will never be as perfect as the people we see on TV.

They arent rules hun. They are what every woman & girl see in the tabloids & magazines in the check out lines everywhere. I think we all should just be who we are, skinny or not. No matter how thin you are, you may not always be happy. Look at how many of them are on drugs to maintain that look, or have eating disorders. Really now, thats the pathetic part of it all.

no one sets the rules beauty is a personal thing ,what others think is not important
I am 36 a little out of shape and loosing my hair but I am very comfortable with myself and that lets others see the goodness on the inside. if you lack confidence you close yourself off ,,
always remember the most beautiful thing in the world is a happy woman(-;

Don't let media or anyone else tell you what beauty is. It is definely in the eye of the beholder. If there was a standard there would be a generation of artist, musicians, ect. that are all the same
