No It's NOT! Christmas is about the birth of Christ. All the shopping and drinking and eating is just something society has infected it with over the past eras. That may be what it's about to you, but not everybody.
Everybody puts their own spin on it. I, for one, have been a conscience objector the last few years. I decided that Christmas does not require me to run to the mall with the herd and spend all my hard earned paycheck going into the hole just to show my friends and family I love them. I've made gifts all during the year to give to friends and family. I did baking of goodies as gifts for neighbors and co-workers. We went to a number of special church functions, entertained, and spent time with loved ones. While I did buy a select few things, for the most part I gave of "myself", and from the heart. Now, in January I have NO credit card debt. There is still $$ in my bank account, and we are all happy campers.

Basically yes!
Christmas originated as a German Pagan winter festival - when Emperor Constantine of Rome adopted Christianity as the Roman state religion, he converted a lot of popular pagan festivals into Christian feast days to get the Roman masses to convert easily.
Christmas got picked to be Jesus' birthday.
In the 20th century, Christmas has become a merchant's holiday - December is when the bulk of retail sales are made in America, and every bar makes the bulk of their money during the holidays. American manufacturers and food processors make a fortune during the Christmas season too.
The whole religious aspect got pushed by the wayside to sell toys and liquor!

NO,, any occassion , be it christmas or anything else, is for bringing happiness in a person's life and occassions like these are for bringing happiness in communities. Now when people are just doing shopping, drinking or are getting overstuffed , they are actually demostrating their state of mind and affairs, which is happiness by any mean.

x'mas is a merry occasion one gets to celebrate after the hectic schedules one goes through day after day,so there's nothing wrong if one goes a bit out of the way & gets drunk & overstuffed ,only that the real purpose of the day should not be laid forgotten

Yep, not too many people who still think about the true meaning of Christmas (no, not being with family, buy gifts or giving, buy about Jesus being born). Christmas shouldn't mean beer and party. Shea <33, Christmas is about Christ being born for everybody, not just Christians.

No. Christmas is about celebrating Jesus Christs Birthday. Cause he gave the life we live now. You should think about that.
