My 10 month old has been on Stage 1 foods until now. Our pedi gave us the go-ahead to begin to give her some Stage 2 foods. She may have some allergy issues, that is why we are so late in giving Stage 2 to her. So we were instructed to give her one Stage 2 food for one week (along with her other Stage 1 foods, green beans, carrots, fruits, etc.) to make sure there are no allergies. We tried to give her chicken with chicken gravy and she started gagging and would NOT eat it. Are these "meatier" foods something they have to get used to or could this just be one that she just doesn't like? What to do? Try another food tomorrow or try the same one tomorrow? Thanks!

She just needs to get used to the taste. It tastes really different. To help, try mixing a tiny bit of the meat mixture in with the veggies she's used to. Gradually increase the amount of the meat mixture until she can take the meat mixture by itself. That's what worked with my son.

From her gagging, it would seem that she doesn't like the texture, vs. it being a taste she dislikes. Try pouring a serving size into a bowl, and mashing it with a fork. You can also get a baby-food-mill, which are really helpful to have in general. Once you have it a little more mashed, try feeding her small spoonfuls. It may be she just doesn't like certain things, my son is 15 mo. old, has been eating solids since he was 7.5 mo. (was exclusively breastfed before that), and is now eating from the table, but would heartily refuse certain Stage 2 foods I tried.
I definitely recommend the one week between new foods. It has really helped us to go a full week when adding new foods, we discovered some minor reactions to a couple of foods, that showed up on day five or six.

Wait 3-5 days before introducing another new food, in case of allergies. But, your baby just might not like that particular flavor right now.
In my experience, the differences between stage 1 and stage 2 foods are the portion size (stage 2 is bigger), variety (stage 2 mixes more flavors together, like apple-strawberry), and texture (stage 1 is more pureed). Perhaps your baby doesn't like one or all of those differences yet.

I noticed that some of the stage 2 stuff, like "Turkey with Rice" have a lot of crap in them and generally taste terrible. We used these for a very short time and got a food mill ($12 from amazon.com) to grind up regular table food and fresh steamed veggies.
Yes, they have to get used to these new flavors. Just keep offering to her and try different brands. There is no rhyme or reason to how to offer these foods: try new ones, try the same one. Sometimes when they get the food in their mouth a 2nd time, they like it.

first of all 10 months isnt late to be starting stage 2 foods. My daughter is almost 6 months old and we wont be starting cereal until she is about 8 months old. She is exclusevely breastfed. The texture and taste of the stage 2 foods could be different and she may not have expected it to taste different and that is why she gagged its just like the cereal when you started it, she had to get used to the taste and texture. But just like with the stage one foods you have to make sure there are no allergies to them so yes feed them to her one at a time along with her normal eatting habits and check to make sure there are no signs of allergies. Good luck and remember your not starting too late with baby food, just being cautious about your babies health!

As a mom of 2, introducing solids are really not into the pattern usally our pedia gives. I have seen the difference with my kids. with my first one it was very difficult for him to adjust with the foods we give him and i can feel what you are into right now. I almost tend to panic sometimes as there might be something wrong with him but its the wonder babies have... really everything will come at their own pace. With my 2nd one, well guess what, she has an open mouth on everything you feed her. And that is so exciting! Maybe what i gave u is more of an advice... Just dont give up introducing them the food but maybe not from time to time, give variety of them (try to look on online stores, they have plenty there) and maybe from the usual activity you would notice what she likes and not. As long as she has the right nutrition along with vitamins and of course milk, esp breastmilk ( hope you are), i assure your baby will meet the nutrition her little body needs. Good Luck!

you should give each new one at least two or three days trial or the little one will control the mealtime in the future. some kids will not like change but you must at least try to employ their curiosity with new foods.
