In Baseball a player's batiing average is the ratio of hits to the number of times he or she has batted. Thus, if the player has an average of .003, it means that he or she got 300 hits in 1000 at bats. In order to have an average of .300, how many hits would a batter have to get in 400 times at bat? .300 x = 400?????

400 x .3 = 120
120/400 = .3

yes, you're equation is correct.

0.3 * X = 400, X = 120 hits out of 400 AB = .300 BA

Batting 300 means 0.300 or 300 out of 1,000. Batting 0.003 means 3 out of 1,000.

The batting number is the per mil (like percent, but with a thousand).
