It's more common than some people think. If things weren't well, or he was abusive when she found out she was pregnant he might not know. Nothing bad is going to happen to you if he doesn't know, but if things get serious don't be surprised if he refers to you as his father as he gets older.

I don't how common it is. However, that's a good thing if you (or some other guy) ever wants to adopt that child because the adoption proceedings will require that she notify the father and get his consent before the adoption can be done. UNLESS, she states that she does not know who the father is. It will be less complicated for adoption reasons for the father to not even know the child exists.
Did she say why she didn't tell him? Could be that he was a scumbag and the child is better off without him being around. I give her credit if that's the case. I would, however, be curious to know if she plans to ever tell the child about his biological father.

If the guy treated the girl badly then yes it is common. It could have been at the time she was pregnant she wasn't sure who the father was, and didn't want to worry about the stress of trying to figure it out. Sometimes, its better left alone.

I guess if the guy isn't smart enough to figure it out that 's his problem as for her not telling him she could have honest reasons why she doesn't want him to be a part of the child's life my oldest child was the product of a one night stand and after finding out the guy was a coke user I wanted no part of him in my daughters life so yes I think it's common enough

yes. Sometimes a girl may have been with more than one person, and isin't even sure herself. Easier to not say anything than admit that right!
Or maybe he was an ***, abusive, or simply a fun boyfriend, but clearly to childish to be a father.
Usually there is a good reason, I would say.
