Lethal injection is one thing, but televising it would be "cruel & unusual" punishment. So, no, I don't think that will happen.

I do not doubt that one day public executions will again come to light. Pay for view? I doubt that though. Interestingly enough, I just happened to have watched again Angels with dirty faces - where James Cagney portrays a mobster like character who despite his veneer of being harsh, cruel and mean is portrayed as being a "good boy" who just didnt run fast enough and when incarcerated as a boy grew into the fiend he became. In the final scenes of the movie Rocky Sullivan [cagney] is being led to the electric chair and is asked by his lifelong friend turned priest, to go out like a yellow rat - ie, crying, screaming and pleading for mercy, to show the young boys that crime is not the path to take in life and that mobsters and what not are not to be emulated. Despite saying he would not do it, in the end you hear Cagney relent [or did he?] crying and screaming for mercy just before they strap him in and pull the switch.
I worked 14 years in a maximum security prison with a death row, and during that time I personally witnessed those of unmeasurable evilness. However, I also witnessed acts of compassion and kindness that would amaze even the most resolute. I have seen good come forth from evil, and evil from those considered good. Executions will be debated for years, maybe even centuries down the road - but the question to be resolved, and yes will continue to be debated, is whether there will come any public good to them.
Executions as they stand predominately as they do now, by lethal injection, where if done properly, the convicted goes to sleep and never wakes, leaves little for the public to gain from [preventative measures].
In the end though, even if no one gains anything but the one condemned, then it is one redemption that might never have been gained. For example, one of the worst offenders of our time, Richard Speck and another, Brian Dugan, both managed to avoid the death penalty and resolutely stated they did not regret their crimes. They both remained in the population of prisoners and spread their vileness to those around them, in fact, promoted it. If anything, their deaths will prevent another from emulating or worse, admiring, those filled full of such venom.
So one may despair over the fact that there are those on death row who may have even the kindest of hearts towards animals, or whatever, they are condemned for their acts against humanity - and those punishments delivered should be a prompt to others that should you do the same, this shall be the result. In that sense, the public executions should not be pay for view, but should be publically broadcast for those to see should they choose. I of course state this until the day science and medicine comes to a point, like as portrayed in "clockwork orange", where we can reprogram individuals to the point they will never be a threat to society again.

Given the sensationalist nature of entertainment these days, I would not be at all surprised.
I think it is inappropriate, however, in my personal opinion.

That would be disturbing. Perhaps one day, there will be no more executions.
