First of all, the pain you are feeling is perfectly normal, it's just your ribs stretching a bit to allow room for your other organs to move up a bit to allow the fetus some room in your abdomen. However, if it is so bad that you cannot sleep, you need to talk to your phycisian immediately. Second, it's not bad to sleep on your right side, it just makes you urinate more often.

I felt like I had a baby foot suck in my ribs the last two months of my pregnancy! Yes, it is normal. The baby is running out of room and you will be the one that will suffer. You're almost there, so stay strong. It is okay to sleep on either side, just not your stomach. They recommend sleeping on your left side because it increases blood flow and it is supposed to be most comfortable. At this point, do whatever is most comfortable for you. Even though at 39 weeks NOTHING is comfortable!

I had pain right under my ribs a few days before my water broke and I went into labor.
Forget about sleep for the next couple years!! It is fine to sleep in any position that you can get comfortable in.

It is better to sleep on your left side, as sleeping on your right my inhibit the blood flow to your baby. Secondly, yes, having pain under your rib cage is totally normal especially as far along as you are. There is only so much room in there and your body is expanding to accommodate your not so little resident.
Congratulations and Good Luck

I totally understand your pain. When I was pregnant my daughter always kicked my ribs and made it hurt so bad. I had a hard time sleeping too but I found that sleeping with a body pillow supporting your belly and in between my legs helped me sleep a little more.

I was the same way. Its probably your babys food jammed right into the side of your ribs. That was the case with me in my last couple of weeks and it didn't go away until I delivered, and she was 8lbs 4 0z. Your baby has run out of room to grow so now it is jamming itself into your ribs. Lack of sleep is normal at this stage of pregnancy due to how uncomfortable you are, just think of it as practice for whats to come! Good Luck and Congrats!

Congrats i am 39 weeks and 4 days....So Im due in 3 days.....When you are this far along the little guy (or girl) who lives in your belly is running out of room....and they are very uncomfortbale.....and so they stretch out and try to get comfortable....and it tends to make you uncomfortable!! I dont think its bad to sleep on your right side but i heard that sleeping on your left side was better because of the blood flow.....but im not 100% sure about that......

i had pains under my ribs all the time. Sometimes thats the baby under your ribs. That was my case. I never slept at night.. I had a severe case of insomnia which is normal. I think you're having normal pregnancy pains.

oh yes!! this is normal I feel so sorry for u I would sleep on my side and hold my tummy with my hand or put a pillow under your stomach to hold the baby it will make u feel so much better. the pain is the baby hitting your ribs with its feet or hands etc.. the baby is not comfortable.

What does the pain feel like? Is it sharp...dull...stabbing...
Could be the baby pusing on your ribs. My son would kick me so hard I would loose my breath.
If the problem persists call your doctor...if it is the baby try changing position. Get up and walk a while...that might rock the baby to sleep!
