I wonder why they go to the trouble of sterilizing the needle. But they do. It would seem to me that it should be ok if the inmate wants to commit suicide that it would save the state a lot of money.

What do you mean "aren't allowed"? Do you think that not being allowed to do something is going to stop a convicted and doomed criminal from forcing his will over that of the system? Not a chance! If these guys want to do it badly enough, they can find a way. There have been plenty of suicides inside prisons. The only thing that can be done is for guards to minimize the possibility of that occurring by taking appropriate cautions and being as watchful as possible.
As for the state wanting to enjoy the pleasure of revenge, I don't believe the state derives any pleasure from executions. The families of the victims, on the other hand, may be the ones who experience that emotion.

That's the cowards way out for someone that apparently committed a heinous crime. The families of the victims want closure, which isn't the same if the convict commits suicide.

Inmate also have to be healthy before they are executed. If an inmate has cancer, the state must cure them of cancer before they call execute them. Makes no sense to me, but that is the laws man has made.

For the same reason they use an alcohol swab on their arm before they stick the needle in. It would be inhumane to let them hang themselves.
