Finding a CD player in a few years will be like trying to find a portable cassette player now. As technology progresses, everything becomes outdated and is replaced by something more desirable.

I think that MP3 players and Internet based music purchasing options (e.g. itunes) will probably be the next step, but it will be a gradual one as these are only optimal for people with high speed Internet connections. CD Players are still the best value in terms of affordability and quality and the musuc industry as a whole has still not yet fully embraced digital music as a medium (though they are getting closer all the time).

It took CDs a long time to replace cassette tapes. The same can be said for DVD and VHS.

In a few years yes they will still be sold. I would guess only 5% though will be using them as mp3 players are becoming cheaper and easier to use.

I have an iPod and I am in the process of putting my CD's on it. I also have purchased at least 20 new CD's since I got the iPod. For me, CD's are less expensive (I belong to BMG). Also, until they get the DRM issues resolved, I'd rather have a physical copy of my music that they can't take away from me.
