It's too big a job. The Roman Empire broke up because it was too big, and it only circled the Mediterranean!!! There is no way any single person can stay on top of all the issues that affect each area of the world.

Rythm is mistaken that someone could rise to that much power and THEN we wake up and rebel.

Ha_Mer is right. It would be an ultimate and complete dictatorship. It would happen due to cataclysmic events that seem insurmaountable without the help of just one man with a small circle of aides. Likely someone in a role in the world political scene..
A smaller comparison would be the financial chaos in Europe in the 20's and 30's that allowed Hitler to rise to power. He was not the first of his kind, and will not be the last.

To answer your question . It would not be pleasant. Power hungry people demand much- finacially, emotionally, physically. And there would be censorship in every area. Choices will be made for you in health and public services. We think non smoking restaraunts are an issue. The issues will be broader and on a grand scale. Lack of privacy and security will be the norm. You can probaly name several other things.

There will be pockets of resistance, we know this to be true, from history, and human nature. But they will be covert, so to be more effective. I also feel New Technologies will advance the causes of both the dictator and the resistance..

I happen to believe that the Word of God is literal, that the book of Revelation is a picture of future events. The word history used to be two words - His Story.

We must live in our history to the best of our abilities, because it will be our legacy, no matter the ultimate outcome at the end of time.

~If the ruler was a benevolent dictator (aka: the BD), most people would either be piffled or poofed. The piffled drones would happily go about producing the necessary things required by the BD and those who were poofed would no longer be a burden on society. There would be peace and harmony (and minimal excitement) in the world and the BD would be pleased with his work.

As for me, I'd be living on the Grand Cayman Island, at the behest of the BD, surrounded by war ships so that I can't get off and stir up trouble. Although the BD would not let me have Sting on the island to keep me company, he would send a case or two of fine wine for my pleasure.

The one ruler scenario has been played out on many a porch night. Just ask Oscar.

The way it has been George Bush these days. Decide yourself are we surrendering too much or will we be cared??
There are too many diversities for one ruler to follow and then natural and man made barricades.
Regional, religious, linguistic, cultural prejudice! Barbarism may also erupt and then we will not be moving forward instead slipping back into the gloomy history of dictatorship.

The majority of the population of the planet would not agree with the views of this leader, rioting and upheaval would ensue, and the world would be plunged into chaos.

Is there a Muslim Napoleon floating around someplace? something of the international has a tendency to look down on wanna-be Napoleons. They inevitably soak the international in blood and violence.

I imagine that the Israelis and the Palestinians would continue hurling bombs at each other but then it would technically be a "civil war."

He/she'd be assassinated for one and for two, most things would be unenforceable. It would be chaotic. Huge populations would be anarchists. It would be a sad sorrier world than we live in now.
