Hi ladies. I've gained a few pounds recently around my middle, which I intend to lose over the next few weeks. In the meantime, I don't want to replace all my jeans. But, I've got a little chuck of that bulk squishing out over my waistband. I've tried baggier sweaters and the big belt thing, but they all make me look chunckier. Any hints besides wearing sweats the whole time? thanks!

Buy at least one thing that fits.

It really is very difficult. Even with looser flowing tops, you can see were the bulge is.

I'd suggest going and getting some cheap new jeans in the sales, in a bigger size, then you will always have them if you gain a little weight in future. If you're in the US, American Eagle has a big sale right now, jeans are like $20.

Otherwise, skirts are usually a little more forgiving cuz they can fit higher up. A long top will disguise the fact that you're wearing it so high, and then when you lose the weight they will fall back down to rest on the hips.

If you're determined to wear your jeans, wear them around the house after washing to stretch them out, and don't tumble dry them- they'll shrink to their smallest possible fit.

Tops with elastic gathering at the bottom can look pretty good, as can wearing a long tank/vest top (most tops on sale right now are pretty long- you can pick up plain coloured ones very cheap right now) under whatever top you wear. It will smooth it all down and it looks cool to have a few layers.

Finally, posture is very important. Don't slouch! I've seen pics of myself before where I'm really slouching and have THE worst muffin top (cringe!), despite wearing well fitting and flattering clothes, bad posture will completely cancel it out.

Try wearing a man's suit vest over your top. You local Salvation Army will have a bunch to choose from. The vest should be long enough to cover your belt line. Think of it like a fun 'n funky fashion statement. See Dianne Keaton in "Annie Hall" or Marlena Deitrich in "Morroco".

A man's vest at the SA will set you back about 2 bucks ... get a few ... they are adjustable and will flatter your figure. If you're top heavy this may not work unless you can make darts.

They make these new shirts that somewhat resemble maternity shirts but they are not. They are very in style. They have an empire waist and it just flows from the bust line down, almost like a dress. They make them in different lenghts too.

You could also do wrap shirts or ones that gather in the mid section I am sure you have seen the shirts that are gathered at the sides and they have extra material in the middle to flow gracefully over those trouble areas!

Good luck loosing it! Make a plan and stick to it!!

It may be a bit uncomfortable to your liking, but what about a body suit? Victoria's Secret...as over rated as they are... have some. http://www2.victoriassecret.com/collection/index.cfm?&rfnbr=3204&cgname=OSCLOBLOVIL&cgnbr=OSCLOBLOVIL&page=all

Or you could just get a plain body suit, one that can be worn under clothing, not as the clothing, and wear your regular shirts over this.

There's also waist sinchers...although these might make you spill out of the bottom...I don't think they're very tall, so they don't cover all the way to the top of your hip bones.

There's always a girdle...As for anything else, I'm not sure.

Nothing will replace better fitting jeans, but in the mean time try tops that are lose on the bottom but emphasis the chest such as a long tube top.

In my never to be underestimated opinion, low rise jeans look good on no one.

Go shopping. In the meantime, try wearing slimming tunics or bigshirts.

buy a basic pair of jeans that you can fit ... do layers ... a long tank with lace (or without) at the bottom ... and a scoopneck or v-long sleeve shirt .. make sure they are baby or slimfit shirts ... they will give you shape and will give the appearance of a slimmer figure ..
