In reality, they probably ought to trade down and see if they can get multiple 1st and 2nd round picks, cause one guy ain't gonna solve all the problems they've got. I tend to believe that you build a team from the offensive & defensive lines first.

Well, Dallas did lose, and even though the Raiders have had a poor showing this year(I'm being nice), I'm still a Raider fan(just cause a team gets "nasty" (you mean they haven't been a winning team, don't you?) a loyal fan does not turn his back)- so the Raiders get the first pick. It would seem that they need a QB, but they won't draft one for 2 reasons: 1) they don't draft 1st round QB's (coulda had Ben) and the ones they have drafted have been busts(remember Marinovich?) and 2) they need an O-line to protect a QB- why pay the price for a QB when he'll be harassed, chased and sacked every game all game? So, instead of drafting an O-lineman for a position for which they already have a pro-bowler(see Gallery), draft an O-lineman and let him play the position he knows. In fact, trade the 1st pick for 2 later ones and pick a couple of O-line guys( Joe Thomas, Sam Baker, Jake Long). The Raiders will always crash and burn if they can't protect a QB. Right now they can't. Nobody catches balls because the ball has to come out so quickly and they can't establish the pass which means they'll have trouble establishing the run as well. They're not converting and always punting- their defense would be top of the list if they didn't run out gas in the middle of the 3rd quarter on account of being on the field most of the time. The raiders should draft O-line men. Even if they don't all start, it will light a fire under the #$$'s of the existing line.
If it were possible, they should draft a replacement for Al Davis. The guy is a genius and "his way" worked in the 70's, 80's and maybe even part of the 90's. But the league has since changed and he has not. He's running this team into the ground in a league that, with the draft, is designed to help poorly performing teams.
P.S. The Raiders have always been "nasty." Tough guys with tough attitudes. All the way back to the 70's when Oakland was a blue-collar town and liked their blue-collar team with their beards, mustaches and long hair and their hard hits and deep passes. This was in contrast to the clean cut team across the bay. Now Oakland is a tough city for other reasons, and their fans are the people that make it a tough town.

I think you first have to wait and see if they retain Art Shell as coach. Then decide who will help most on Offense. I think Shell will have a hard time selling a free agent QB on coming to Oakland so he would need to draft one. Another coach may be able to lure a good free agent and then would draft another lineman or running back. The Raiders don't usually have the patience to develop a QB so they most likely won't draft one.
I say go with a new left tackle cause it looks like Robert Gallery is not going to work ou.

The Oakland Raiders need to draft the best quaterback available to them, but they should also check out the free agency market and see if they can pick up a good quaterback...maybe Jeff Garcia if Philly lets him go. O-Line is a major concern for this team and adding Jake Long or Joe Thomas well boost this teams offense. They should also had to their defense which would only make them better.
So.....
Raiders pick up Joe Thomas (6'8" 330Lbs.)
or Jake Long (6'7" 310Lbs.)

They're not getting the first pick because there's no way Detroit beats Dallas. So, with the second pick, the Raiders should select...
Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma
And then spend the next six picks on offensive linemen.

Top RB's have dominated in the last few years. Look at LT, Bush and Steven Jackson. They should go with Marshawn Lynch who will be great in the NFL.

if they end up with the first pick, THEY should take Brady Quinn, if not, they need a RB, Lamont Jordan seemed like a one year wonder in 2005, so they should take possibly Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma RB

Someone good. However, the Chargers will still "clean their clocks" next year with LT!
