Why do most people have to say that Boracay and Makati are the only places to go in the Philippines? If you're Filipino, you should be ashamed of yourselves, and if you're foreign tourists, then you've seen nothing of this lovely country!

Boracay is an over rated noisy strip of sand, full of vendors, hassles, green weed at waterline and full of people who have to be around thousands of others to persuade themselves that they are having a good time...

Makati is the business district of Manila and, apart from Greenbelt, it's borin, boring, boring.

Malate and Ermita is where you'll find original Filipino hospitality, mixed with plenty of excellent restaurants, owned by local and foreign restaurateurs, Baywalk is a good place to watch the sun go down and you will also find some of the best 5 star hotels in that area, as well as rooms from 10usd up.

If you want to see some beautiful islands, go where the locals are really the locals and will not spend the whole day trying to sell you crap or rip you off with terrible boat rides stuffed with pink sweaty tourists.

Northern Palawan (Busuanga Island), Romblon, Marinduque, Siquijor, Apo Island, West ******, Pandan Island, to name a few, there are thousands of better, friendlier beach areas than Boracay and you'll be a lot safer away from the scam artists, pick pockets and general scum which hang out around the major 'tourist' areas.

I've been sailing around these islands for 14 years on my yacht and the only places I've felt ripped off or miserable are the places destroyed by tourism (and bloody karaoke machines)........

the philippines in march is scorching! in which case it's almost criminal to not go to the beach to cool yourself down. boracay is the best known, but there's lots more all over the country.

anyway.. as for cities, metro manila is generally safe, and so are the other 2 biggest cities -- cebu and davao (and both have great beaches too).

I would have to agree with dylin. Makati's the safest city in Manila but if you wish to see beaches, Boracay's the most recommended place to enjoy the sun and nature.

I totally agree with Tequila Mike. Apparently, Filipinos are fun loving, but they are never carnivorous. So don't be paranoid about those useless anxieties. Just be yourself and enjoy your trip.

Mabuhay!

normally all cities are safe as long as you dont flash your cash or jewelry that will attract bad elements. as long as dont do foolish things. you will do fine and dont accept free things from strangers.
