Ok I asked this question yesterday cos i had a pretty bad throat/ But it has got worse over night and today has been constant pain. Thy glands in my neck are up and I have had an on and off headache. My throat is red and still has an ulcer kind of thing behind one tonsil which is surronded by white stuff. I think I can see white spots coming on my tonsils. But my mum doesnt think anything is wrong. She just doeses me up with paracetamol and tells me to rest and if it isnt gone my whenever we have to go to the doctors. So what can help it over the weekend and new years dayy? Anything will be helpful

The best way to reduce the discomfort of sore throat is to take pain meds like Tylenol or Advil (acetominofen or Ibuprofen).

Warm beverages and soups are also soothing to the throat.

Gargling with warm salt water is effective at soothing and also for helping to reduce the viral infection. Good oral hygiene when you are sick is also good -- brushing your teeth and using antiseptic mouthwash (like Listerine brand) are helpful to reduce the level of viruses in your mouth.

There are also tons of products such as throat lozenges and throat sprays that are soothing. For lozenges, I have found that the most effective active ingredient is:
hexylresorcinol
But there are not very many products that have it. Instead you will probably be able to find products containing other active ingredients.

The brand Cepacol is generally the most effective lozenges available (in the USA). Here is their website:

My answer...try the lozenges that treat sore throat...if you can see that there is white spot around your tonsil it means YOUR TONSIL JUST GOT INFLAMED...the white stuff is a pus...if your mum still insist not to send you to see the dr. try gargling with lemon juice, warm salt water or you can also gargle with mouthwash and make sure you gargle as close as possible to an infected tonsil.

They have a tablet such as dequadin or strepsils (here in malaysia) but strep bacteria usually became resistant to such medication...tell your mum...unless she really want to make you suffer from bacterimia...then she should send you to hospital.

Gargle with warm salt water several times a day. It is an old home remedy, but it really does work. It won't 'hurt' to try it. If you're not better by Monday you really should see a doctor. It could be strep-throat.

do you have a fever? you don't need to wait to go to the dr. call and go in today. you sound like you may have strep throat, and will get worse and worse if you do not get on antibotics. not to mention strep is contagious.
