Does anyone else do this? DH says it's funny - I just find it plain annoying! Also, if this is a problem now, how's it going to be when I'm closer to my due date? (I'm only 28 weeks now - can you imagine what it's going to be like in another 12 weeks??)

For example, today when I sat down at the computer, my belly hit the desk on the way down. Or when I turn, I sometimes hit my belly on a nearby table or chair. It doesn't hurt, but it's getting to be really annoying!

Does anyone have a similar experience? Any tips to avoid this?

I had this problem when I was pregnant as well. I was not at all accustomed to having a growth sticking out from my midsection.

Upside you will become aware of it more and it will not be a problem.

One funny thing about me...when I was pregnant with my son I had to sit close to my desk at my job and he would kick it. I would have bruises from him kicking the desk...but I had to sit that close so I could reach the keyboard. It wouldn't move. Finally I had to complain about it and they got me a new one that was mobile.

It will get easier...soon enough you will find yourself resting your hands on your 'tray'. ;)

Oh yeah and congrats~

Yes!! Drives me nuts too! I have been doing it for a long time now, but now I am 38 weeks and yes...it does get worse! Just like you...most of the time it doesn't hurt, but occasionally I whack it pretty good. Like the other day when I went to my moms house..I opened up her screen door but didn't give myself enough clearance and the door whcked me in the belly and the latch scraped right above my belly button and left a huge red welt with a little bit of blood....UGH!
It definatley sucks...but the good new is, I am almost done! :) I am due Jan.11th but I am on bed rest now for possible development of preeclampsia...so I am being induced within 10 days or less.
Tips on avoiding it....well, just try and keep it in your mind to give yourself a few extra inches of space. That's about all I can say though. That is also what I have to tell my other kids...they are constantly running into me!
Good luck and Congratulations!

Just when I thought I was the only one.. LOL The thing I do the most is when I am shutting my sons car door, it will hit my belly and I'm like oh yeah, I'm pregnant. So yeah I try to be careful. Its hard not to miss the big ol belly though.. But yeah I feel ya on that one!!

I used to do this all the time when i was pregnant. It was annoying especially the desk thing. I don't think there really is anyway to avoid it. Just know that your baby is well protected. My mom said when she was pregnant with us (I am a triplet) that she always hit her belly with door knobs, she said she even used to get bruises. Poor thing. Good luck and congrats.

I'm sorry I don't have any tips but I hope you feel a little better knowing you're not the only one. I did it all the time, on top of that I turned into a bigger klutz than I already was. Good luck and just wait you will have a beautiful baby to show for it.

I knocked stuff off tables when I was pg.....it's part of it. Just enjoy being pregnant as much as you can. Your body is changing every day, and your mind is not going to accommodate your shape as you grow. You just need more room to move around in....

ps. I got so big with my last baby, that in my 8th month my hubby and I went out to eat, and I couldn't fit into the booth!!!! I was humiliated, but the hostess said it happened all the time.

Oh man I did that all the time with both of my kids. I ran into everything you can imagine...doorways were the worst for me.
I would even knock stuff off of the grocery story shelves when reaching for something, it was so embarassing.
Unfortunatly all you can do is try to look more carefully before you do something....but really there isnt much you can do until the baby is out.

My belly's not that big yet, but I've bumped my boobs into everything since they swelled. I've actually gotten them caught a few times.

My DH also thinks it's hysterical, especially when I whine about it afterwards. Since my last incident (which really hurt) I've just taken much slower and more calculated movements. It's really helped.

My wife was walking by in the mall and tried to squeeze through two people and her belly knocked over a lady! Your body can't adjust to the changes fast enough so your equilibrium is off.
