I tried plugging my ipod into the new computer and also installing the original apple ipod disk but nothing has happened. And the last thing I want to happen is for all my songs to be removed. I can't get my laptop even turned on, so how can I install my ipod on the new computer with my old songs on it?

You can get software that will transfer content from your iPod to your computer. CopyPod is just one option - if you search for iPod and transfer you should find more.

Go to your old computer, and insert a blank CD while iTunes is on. Go to your library and click File > Back up to disc. When music is done, go to your new computer and go to apple.com and download iTunes for free. Then put your CD (with the music on it) into the computer and import it to your library. Then plug your iPod into the computer and click and drag the songs to your iPod.
