Sellotape (sticky tape) residue on white painted furniture came off easily using olive oil, with no harm to the finish. May need 5 minutes before rubbing off with paper towel. I used the plastic cap as well which worked a treat as a non marking scraper. Peter

try laying a damp cloth on it for an hour and check its softend progress, as it softens it should become like a soft plastic goop that you canpeel/pick off.(depending on how much hairspray there is) Keep leaving it for an hour at a time, untill it is completely removed. Be sure to keep the cloth damp, but not dripping wet. also try to limit the contact of the damp cloth to just the hairsprayed area, if it turns out it needs MANY hours of soaking. really you should be able to do this in a day.
good luck.

I have had this problem; I used liquid fabric softener diluted with water about a 1/4 cup of softener to about 4 cups of water. Dip a rag or paper towel and wring it out very good. The hairspray should wipe away easily.

Buy shampoo that removes build up from you hair and mix it in some water and wash your furniture with that. Be sure to rinse it with a damp cloth afterward.
Try Pantene clarifying shampoo

This is going to be difficult. Anything strong enough to disolve the hairspray can also disolve the finish of the wood. I would you soap and water.

It will take a lot of work. Sandpaper, steel wool, Brillo pads, etc. are too likely to scratch the finish.

Try one of those Mr. Clean "magic eraser" sponges. They seem to be great at cleaning a lot of things!
