I don't remember being checked until I was in the birthing room for the first one. My pregnancy was normal so I didn't have to worry. I went to the Dr. appt having contractions so he sent me to the birthing center. As for the second I was slightly high risk so they checked me right before Thanksgiving so that way they could tell me if I could travel. The doc said if I was dilated at all no travel for me. But I was okay then, I ended up delivering one week after Thanksgiving. So it depends on the pregnancy and the doctor. good luck and when the baby is ready it will come. congrats.

Alot of dr's and midwives dont check for dialation until your at 40 weeks because it can cause you to dialate faster and go into labor in most cases.
I've always been checked every week from 36wks to delivery. At my last appointment with my daughter I was only 3cm and after they checked me I went to 5cm within an hour and ended up having her that day.

Don't worry they don't check you until you are in labour, this is the only time your cervix starts to dialate. When you first go into labour you may only be 1cm dialated and you have to get to 10cm before you can push, this can happen quickly so don't worry, walking whilst in labour helps you to dialate.
Good luck, you will be fine x

its a procedure all doctors n midwife have to follow. frequent check up n handling of cervix can be more prone for infection especially during the last weeks.. so its kept to minimum and only checked when really neessary. it will be checked frequently during labour pains n labour to check the progress. hope this helps

i guess it all just depends on where you go for your care. where i go they check before i go into labor as early as a few weeks before and i guess some places would rather wait until you are in labor. checking the cervix can put you into labor so maybe that is why they don'ta want to do it where you go. you should ask your doctor to check you if you really want them too. good luck and congratulations.

Is this your first baby? Have you been having contractions? Some midwives don't check for dilation until the due date because it can artificially strip the membranes. They only check once you reach your due date or if you're having regular contractions. I was checked regularly and it was depressing to hear that I wasn't dilated or was hardly dilated at all. Best of luck.

im 41 weeks pregnant and they only just checked mine 3 days ago. Its because they dont need to they only check if its going over and they want to see if its ok. Otherwise you havent even met your due date yet so why are they concerned. If you go into labour they will check you out then.

You should ask if you any questions/concerns I asked all the time probably to a point of being a pain in the neck But it is true without labor pains they may not have any reason to check. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

They wait until your "water breaks", this is an initial signal that the cervix is dilating. Talk more with the midwife, to ease your mind.
