I'm from Argentina so we don't have tons of books in english. There's this one library that only has books in english, but since they are new, they are kinda expensive. I found a library that has a lot of them, but I don't know what to look for.
The books there are mostly paperback. And the sort of "New York Time's Best Seller author"... I don't really trust those. But anyway, I'm in the mood for a nice novel, romance novel... sort of "story-in-a-small-town-a-long-time-ago" type of novel
Any authors to recommend? Or actual book title?
Thanks in advance!!

I've read "The catcher in the rye" "The great gatsby" "The postman" and the one with all the robots... it's a classic I don't remember the name now. You're gonna kill me for this...

I'm 21.
And the books I said that were expensive it's because the price is dollarized. If I buy it online it's gonna be in dollars and dollars are expensive

You would probably like anything by Nicholas Sparks. He specializes in small town love stories and romantic encounters - if you saw the movie "The Notebook" - that was one of his. I personally haven't read one - but my friends rave about his books! I like Jennifer Weiner - she's written "In her Shoes" and "Good in Bed" which were fantasic. You should post your age range so you can get appropriate books :) Good luck!

I'm not a good authority on romance novels, but Jane Austen has some good domestic novels. The only problem might be some of the out-dated vocabulary, as she's English and Victorian.
You might try a Chicano author. Sandra Cisneros is good, and the vocabulary wouldn't be too far-fetched. I haven't read any romantic stories from her, however.
Maybe Isabel Allende? She's a wonderful writer. Allende has English translations of her works, and Cisneros writes in English.
Good luck--

If you are looking for a true heart warming book with a few witty humorous twists on it, you will definetly like The Wish List by Eion Colfer ((Yes the guy who wrote Artemis Fowl)) It is basically about a petty theif girl who breaks into an elder folk's apartment with her accomplise. After a series of events, she finds her self between the man they are trying to rob, and her accomplise who wants to kill him and gives her life to save him. Because her life was devoted to crime she would go to Hell, but she sacrificed her life, so she has a chance to go to heaven, only if she goes back to earth as an angel to complete the old man she robbed's wish list.
Sorry that was long, but it is a great book, however maybe aimed at ages 17 and up rather than hard core romantic books. This book does offer some sweet romance as she fills out the wish list. Check it out? Its a great boook.

I think...romantic n' that small-town scene....i'll give the thump up to Nicholas Sparks. He's very good at romantic novels. My favourite one is "A walk to remember". It's about a seems-like-a-nerd Jamie and a seems-like-a-bad-boy Landon. Something draws 'em to meet. And then...they fall for each other...but it's also about love and lives. Some doubts you get while readin' will all be answered to at the end.
"The notebook", "The guardian" and some others are also good!
Give it a try...

You might give the latest fictional novel "Reluctant Journey" by Peter West a chance. It is a relatively quick read, but is full of raw emotion, romance, and even some elements of mystery. Happy reading!

Sounds like you are interested in the "Classics". How about "Sense & Sensability" by Jane Austen? Great book, I've read it many times. Another good one is "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn"(don't remember author), and better yet, "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker.

You can download some books in English as eBooks (Electronic Books), in the form of Adobe Acrobat PDF files or Microsoft .LIT files for the Microsoft Reader program. You may find some free ones, to save money and give you more choice.
There are lists of recommended romantic fiction books on the www.amazon.com bookshop site.
There are also 20,000 old books on the Project Gutenburg site. You can read them online, download them or get them on CD or DVD.

Since you are interested in a contemporary novel with a little romance, I'd highly recommend any of Jody Picoult's novels. I just read The Tenth Circle, which has been on the NYT list. All of her novels are light and entertaining, though. Enjoy!
