While being on the internet today, we got a free drive cleaner that said we have over 23000 file privacy violations on our computer. Basically it says that when going into some sites, they automatically download programs onto your computer without you knowing it. That programs then comprimises your privacy - credit cards, marriage, etc. We have to buy the drive cleaner to get it cleaned. Anybody have any advice for me, because I'm really not that good with all this kind of programs.

I think that you have actually clicked the button on that site that says something like "Free check" or whatever. Then i'm sorry to say youv'e been caught like so many and me. Get any or some of the free adaware programmes already suggested but also def' reccommend "SpyBot Search and Destroy" grt it from "FileHippo.com" its free. It is better to, and i highly reccommend, to use the programmes in "Safemode" once you have the programme/s and installed them. Reboot your computer and hold down the F8 key whilst booting up. it will cycle for a minute or so then when option screen appears use directional keys upward and choose "SafeMode" option. dont worry if things look a bit weired when booted up, this is normal. Now run the spyware programme/s. This may take a while so have plenty cups tea to hand. ok. when programmes have finished restart computer in normal way and this should have got rid of any crap. Like i said, def' use Spybot as one of the programmes it is brill

Don't download the software. No programs says you have spyware or a virus before you download. All you will get is trojans, adware spyware and malware.

http://www.ccleaner.com Excellent free cleaner that comes in many languages and defaults that you can change to clean only what you desire from your system. Plus all updates are free.

Anything that has been downloaded or says a message like that after you just being on the internet is complete crap. This stuff is full of spyware in itself. If any program installs itself on your computer without you specifically giving the green light to install it, then you need to get rid of it. What I recommend is getting the latest version of Internet Explorer 7....I think you have to have Windows XP. It has integrated pop-up-blocker and anti-phishing features built in.
Secondly, the only program you need that's completely free to be able to delete stored information on your surfing habits, as well as deleting obsolete computer registry keys that slow down your computer is a program called CCleaner. It's all I ever used and hasn't failed me yet. www.ccleaner.com

If you're talking about a program called Drive Cleaner, be careful, Drive Cleaner is a fake program. Your computer may well be infected with a trojan called Zlob which installs Drive Cleaner.

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

download firefox for free, Just have a try:

Ad-aware* is a great, free program for getting rid of exactly what you describe (spyware.)
All you have to do is download the file, open and install it, and then it will scan your entire computer for spyware. Once it's found things (which it will, because all computers have it) it gets rid of them for you.
Good luck!

Don't fall for it - good on you to query it!

It's spammed advertising, trying to frighten you into buying their software. Just remove it as others have told you.
