You probably don't remember the vast majority of your early life, in the womb or out of it. Does that mean you weren't alive at that time? As far as awareness goes, brain waves can be recorded in an unborn child just 6 weeks after conception. A 7-week-old baby in the womb will turn her head if her cheek is brushed. At 8 weeks, she can suck her thumb and will draw her hand away from a needle prick. At 9 weeks, she will grasp an object placed in her palm. The average age of an aborted baby in America is 10 weeks. There is also evidence that pain can be felt during the first trimester, when most abortions are committed:

Killing people who might grow up to be poor isn't the solution to poverty. If that's your preferred solution, why don't we just start killing off homeless people and sterilizing people who have low incomes?
Bush isn't pro-life, although he occasionally claims to be to get votes. I'm pro-life without exception, I didn't vote for Bush, and I encouraged others not to vote for him.
Any truly reasonable and intelligent people who want to be informed about abortion should visit http://Abort73.com

A human being is a human being the instant that fertilization takes place. If the beginning of life depended on awareness then it would stand to reason that a person would not be a person until they were 3 or 4 years old, the earliest time from which most have memories. So basically we could chop up and kill any person under the age of 3 because by the awareness rational they are not people yet.

I don't think all "reasonable, informed, intelligent people" are for it. Who are you talking to that leads you to this conclusion? Wouldn't truly "intelligent and reasonable" people also have to say that since the "embryos" have no voice that someone should fight for their rights as well?
Using your reason, since I have no memory before I was two or three, it would have been acceptable to kill me to keep me from becoming a "victim" of my parents poverty...no thanks. I was able to become something despite the troubles my parents had when they were raising me.
Also, using your reason, rather than giving abortions to anyone who needs one, why not keep people from "breeding" in the first place...we could give mandatory vasectomies to poor men, and tie the tubes of all poor women. In fact, we could just start doing that now to all poor people in the world at a young age so they could safely have sex without consequences.
Give me a break, your logic is flawed. What we need is education on what the dangers are of sex, teaching abstinence does work despite what some people may think. This way once people are in a better position to have children (married, perhaps) they can.

All we have are people's opinions as to when life begins...anywhere from the moment of conception through until the moment of birth. Since we don't have a definite answer, then abortion should not be practiced. Does life begin at conception, when the heart beats, when the mother feels movement, the first trimester, the second, trimester, at birth, or is it a baby if the mother says it's a baby? We all have so many opinions, and with a subject as serious as life, Shouldn't we play it safe by not deliberately ending what may be a life?

In all honesty a child is not aware of life till after birth and even then they don't have any recollection hardly till the age of 2.
But the real issue here with life is more about your knowledge of it and the whole fact of any life being a gift from god and something that you should not just throw away for convenience.
Responsibility for your choices and actions is also too much over looked in people of today. If you don't want to have children,go through the correct precautions to avoid it.Don't slap the gift of life in gods face because you were too careless to do what was right.

Right off the bat, I am going to say that I am pro-choice. For one, I don't think a cluster of cells qualifies as a new person. At what point that changes, is, of course, a matter of huge debate, and I don't pretend to have the answer. What I do know, though, is that most people who say that abortion is horrible and wrong have never had to face that decision. A womans body is her own, and no one can tell me otherwise.

Gametes are living things so I suppose the baby would be living from the time they are produced, but from this you could say the baby is different from the gametes and so wouldn't be living anyway, the same way yeast is used to make bread.

You can't compare a human being to a squash. Life begins at conception.
