Practise, learn to breath correctly when singing and if possible, get singing lessons. Even a few lessons will help, as I had only one lesson and it made a huge difference, as I learned to breathe correctly when singing. Breathing is huge when singing as it can make or break ones ability to really hit the correct pitch and tone. Project your voice - visualize that you are singing to a neighbour who lives at the very end of the road. My very good friend is a professional singer and she used this visualization trick when she worked on improving her voice. Get involved with a choir in church or school, audition for musicals at a local theatre group (school or community) and practise. My friend used to sing at Karokee Nights and learned that is one sure way to ruin your voice - tuning to someone else's tone and pitch isn't going to help you sing, it helps you to sing at someone else's key and not at your own key. It's important that you find your own key, your own voice, your own place with singing. Last, write out your goal for singing and set yourself on the path to meeting that goal. Have fun!

Practice, and joining a local choir helps IMMENSLEY - imo better than vocal lessons because you learn to harmonize and sing out and lose some of that nervousness
