You are close. Since it says that one third of the the number is 5 less, you have to add that 5 to the one third to make it equal to the one half. So: 1/3x+5=1/2x. Multiply both sides by 6, you get 2x+30=3x. Subtract 2x from both sides, and you get 30=x, or x =30.

the equation is incorrect. the correct equation is 1/3x+5=1/2x

to solve this equation, simply remove the fractions, and then it's easy with integers.

multiply by 6:
2x+30=3x

subtract 2x from both sides:

30=x

you can check your answer by plugging the five back into the equation.

(1/3)30+5=(1/2)30

10+5=15

15=15

so 30 is the correct answer

i'm unsure what the 5 step approach is however the suitable - and smiple- thank you to remedy the difficulty is desperate up the equation: (a million/3)x + 5 = (a million/2)x then multiply through the least common dissimilar to sparkling the fraction which may well be 6 2x + 30 = 3x then pass the 2x over and you have: 30 = x so 30 is the terrific answer

you are close, but the statement should be written as 1/3x = 1/2x - 5

now, multiply both sides by 6

2x = 3x - 30
-x = -30

x=30

Now, when you use 30, 1/3 of 30 equals 10 which is 5 less than 1/2 of 30.

The equation is not right.

(1/3)x = (1/2)x - 5

Multiply both sides by 6 ,

2x = 3x - 30

x = 30

1/3x = 1/2x - 5

6(1/3x) = 6(1/2x) - 6( 5)

2x =3x - 30

2x - 2x = 3x - 30 - 2x

0 = x - 30

0 + 30 = x - 30 + 30

30 = x

The answer is x = 30

Insert the x value into the equation

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

1/3x = 1/2x - 5

1/3(30) = 1/2(30) - 5

30 / 3 = 30 / 2 - 5

10 = 15 - 5

10 = 10

You have the equation in the wrong order:
1/3x=1/2x-5

Subtract -1/2x from both sides:
2/6x-3/6x=-5
-1/6x=-5

Multiply -6 from both sides:
x=30

Check:
1/3(30)=1/2(30)-5
10=15-5
10=10

I hope this helps!

1/3 of a number(x) is(=) five less(-5) than(+) 1/2 of that same number(x).
The equation is 1/3x = 1/2x-5.
-1/6x = -5
x = 30.

your formula is wrong:

1/3 x = x/2 - 5

multiply this by 3

x = 3 x / 2 - 15

transpose

x - 3x/2 = - 15

x - 1 1/2 x = - 15

- 1/2 x = - 15

- x = - 30

x = 30

check

1/3 x = x/2 - 5
10 = 30/2 - 5

10 = 15 - 5

10 = 10
