I went to start my jeep that i purchased in august. It is a 95 YJ. I pulled it out of the parking spot fine and drove it to the front of my house. When i got back in to leave, I couldnt get it to go into 1st gear... I read the manual, it says when cold it may be hard to put into gear... let it run for a while. I let it run for a very long time and only sometimes it would go into gear. Could there be water in my tranny? Or is there something else...??? (clutch is fine).

i own a repair shop, and you may need to take it in and have the oil changed for the transmission,,if it gets dirty this will cause them to be hard to put in gear i worked one last week that was sort of hard to get in gear,it turned out good after i changed the fluid that was in it,,and some of them are hard to get in when there cold,,its the nature of a jeep, but i think a if you change the fluid in it it should be OK,,,its worth a try,,the only other thing that will cause it,,is the synchronize,rs in the transmission may be bad for first gear ,good luck with it,hope this help,s.,happy new years.

Check your transmission and clutch fluid levels. I have the 95 YJ as well and ran into this same problem in warm weather.

I ultimately had to replace my clutch master cylinder...I would be sitting at a stoplight with my foot on the clutch & brake, and the car in 1st gear. The car wanted to move forward and I couldn't get it out of first gear until I let up on the clutch all the way and then pressed down again.

On automatics there is two interlocks for the computerized that would desire to function in the past it is going to circulate. a million) the important interlock (key needs to be interior the run place) 2) the brake interlock (brake pedal depressed) the two can wreck or come out of adjustment (i bought an 87 wagoneer and had to alter the important launch one considering the fact which you won't be able to eliminate the important if it does not launch the two)

Your syncromesh units may be worn out. These units allow for easy transitioning between gears. You might want to look into seeing if they're worn out. Good luck.

Change the gearbox lubricant to synthetic. That lubricant has better cold temperature characteristics.
