To many factors to answer absolutly. For one thing it depends on the price range of the house. In a more than moderate priced house, it would help more than a low priced one or a high priced one.
For a low priced house, you would spend much more than a buyer would give extra for. In a high priced house, the buyer will want to choose his/her own.
For the most part, it is not worth the money. Do your current ones look acceptable? If so, don't bother.
There is a lot of "feel" that goes into the value of a property. Determining the correct price is not the science that the pros would like you to believe. There is a lot of manipulation that can occur.
The pros will dispute this VERY strongly, but it is true. I have had a lot of experience with this and I know it is a "black art" not science. They can justify any amount plus or minus 20 percent, perhaps even more. That alone makes it an art, not a science.

If the appliances you currently have show signs of wear or are older, yes, new appliances will add value. However, you probably do not need to go top-end stainless steel unless it is a real high-end house. The price differential will probably not be recouped from such an upgrade. Regular, good quality appliances should be enough.

I wouldn't think you could count on it increasing the value. If you are only talking about the ones that will stay like the diswasher and the stove/oven, think of this: If you put those in stainless and I come in to look at your house and I know I have a nice white/brown/whatever fridge that I will bring, the stainless might actually be a strike against.
I would concur with the other posters in that I doubt you would get your money back and I wouldn't mess with it as long as what you have works and can be expected to work for an additional reasonable period.

No, any appraiser assume that appliances will be departing with the ex-home owner. Except built in appliances. Those will increase any homes value by minimal amounts
